She instilled in her children an appreciation for the beauty of nature and the arts by teaching them about birds, gardening and music.  Lea’s granddaughters will forever remember their grandmother for the gift she gave them by teaching them how to set a table properly.

Lea is survived by her children and their spouses, Joseph Benjamin and Sandy Hawkins of Florida, Dorothy Ann and John McElroy of Charlotte, Pamela Suzanne and Wally Waters of MS, and John Douglas and Karen Hawkins of NJ, Marty, Melinda, Precia, Andy, and Jamie Harthcock; 23 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren. WE (THE WINTERS FAMILY), "SONNY AND THERESA" ENJOYED THE COMPANY OF LEA AND DR. HARTHCOCK MANY TIMES AND WERE SAD TO WITNESS THE SALE OF THE HARTHCOCK LAND SOUTH OF GRANDVIEW COVE SUBDIVISION. ONE SUMMER YEARS AGO, DR. HARTHCOCK AND LEA TOOK A 3 MONTH VACATION TO EUROPE AND WE WERE ENTRUSTED TO LOOK AFTER THE HOME AND PROPERTY. THE LAST THING LEA SAID TO (SONNY) WAS "KEEP PLENTY OF WATER IN THE GOLDFISH POND".. LITTLE DID WE KNOW THAT MOTHER NATURE WAS SETTLING IN WITH A DROUGHT WHICH LASTED FOR MOST OF THE SUMMER. WE WERE RETIRED ALSO AND REMAINED HOME TO LOOK AFTER THE PLACE AND THE GOLDFISH POND. DR. HARTHCOCK KEPT SUMP PUMPS IN THE LAKE TO FEED THE GOLDFISH POND. AS A RESULT OF THE DROUGHT WE SAW THE BOTTOM OF THE LAKE NEAR THE FRONT OF THEIR HOME. AFTER MOVING THE SUMP PUMP SERVERAL TIMES THE GOLDDISH SURVIVED THE DROUGHT!! HOW PROUD WAS LEA TO SEE THE FISH HAD SURVIVED...!!!!

LEA WAS A SWEET AND KIND PERSON TO US AND THE NEIGHBORHOOD. UPON RECEIVING HER CHRISTMAS CARD BACK TODAY WE SUSPECTED HER PASSING.
WE SEND A VERY SPECIAL HELLO AND MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL HER FAMILY AND SHARE YOUR LOSS. SINCERELY YOURS
