CHARLOTTE – Joanna Marie Withers, age 51, peacefully passed away in her home on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2020 following a two year battle with pancreatic cancer. All who knew her, whether as Jo, Nan, Jodi or Joanna, had the privilege of witnessing her love of others, her intense compassion and her infectious smile.

Joanna was born on August 17, 1969 in Columbus, Ohio to Raymond Withers and Clifteen (Turbyfill) Withers. At age 12, Joanna’s family moved to Cincinnati, Ohio where she graduated from Sycamore High School in 1987. She attended Hiram College, graduating in 1991, and since then she has lived in Fayetteville, Asheville, and most recently, Charlotte, NC. Joanna demonstrated compassion and kindness throughout her life as shown through her work at a memory care center, a breast cancer center, a movement education program for children with disabilities and as a loving and devoted mother to her 4 children.

Joanna had a beautiful singing voice and a lifelong love for music and theater. She participated in high school theater productions, she entertained and educated young children in a hands-on musical development program and she sang at many of her friends’ weddings. She exuded joy and had a laugh that could only be described as contagious.

Joanna is survived by her 4 children, Cayton Clark, 28, Nathan Clark, 27, Hannah Clark, 26 and Sydneyanne Clark, 24, all of Charlotte, NC. She is also survived by her mother, Clifteen (Turbyfill) Withers and her brother, Robert Withers, both of Cincinnati, OH.

Memorial donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Alzheimer’s Association. Joanna will be dearly missed. Her smile and her spirit will be forever in our hearts.
