Harold Lee Smith II

March 6, 2020

CHARLOTTE- Harold Lee Smith II, 66, passed away at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center on Friday, March 6, 2020.  He was born in Pittsville, MA on February 13, 1954 to the late Howard and Candace Rodgers Smith.  Harold was a husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, and friend, who loved his family patiently and deeply.  He served his country honorably in the United States Air Force, Emergency Medical Team, Catawba County Sheriff’s Department, and Search and Rescue.  Harold was an extremely intelligent man and despite his limitations, he continued to work on projects that most of us would never understand.

Harold was beautiful inside and out.  He was a friend with people of all ages ranging from toddlers to the elderly.  He followed Christ in the Scripture and Holy Communion and tried his very best to love everyone.  He forgave more easily than most and gave his heart more generously than most. His charm and wit will be remembered for the ages.  Harold was much beloved.

Harold suffered for 15 years in his wheelchair and illnesses.  He is now free to go fishing with Jesus.

Funeral Services for Harold will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 14, 2020 at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, 507 South Tryon Street, Charlotte, NC 28202.  The family will receive friends following the service at the church.

Arrangements are in the care of Kenneth W. Poe Funeral & Cremation Service, 1321 Berkeley Ave., Charlotte, NC 28204; (704) 641-7606. Online condolences can be shared at www.kennethpoeservices.com.

I learned of Harold’s passing just last night. Harold and I worked together at the Catawba County Jail many years ago and I considered him a dear friend. To all of Harold’s family, you have my deepest sympathy for your loss. Rest in eternal peace my friend.

I married Harold on September 25, 1992. I have no regrets. He is the most amazing soul I have ever known and I am the most blessed and privileged to have been so close to him during his good times, his bad times, in riches and poverty, in sickness and health. I hope in Christ for the day we will be together again. I miss him terribly. Just before he died I told him to take Jesus’s hand and go. He is now free and happy. That is what I most want for him.
