Sorry to learn of Jake's passing. He and I worked together at several radio stations. I told him several times that he should write a book about Charlotte radio. His shared memories and stories would have made it a read that no one (especially those of us in the "biz") could've put down!
The broadcast community has lost a long-time business giant and friend. My condolences to Jake's family. -
I worked with Jake for years and he was a friend. Working with Jake was educational, fun, and mostly comical. My favorite Jake story I tell when his name comes up is I was on air and did appearances for the station. Jake came to me with a series of 10 appearances for the Super Cuts NASCAR team where I would go to their different locations and they would have the race car there. He said I would be paid $1,500 so needless to say I was psyched. After the final appearance, Jake had my compensation. He hands me a big envelope which seemed like they paid me all in $1 bills. When I opened it there was 150 coupons for free haircuts, no money. So back at the station, I'm like "what's this?". He said, "Did I forget to tell you it was all trade?". God bless him, he was old school radio and did whatever it took to please the client. Did I mention I am completely bald? RIP friend.

Thoughts and prayers for Bess and the family. Jake was truly a real gentleman and we all loved him. Memories we made during the GHS Class of 1961 reunion committee meetings and reunions themselves will be with us forever as will the dinners at Jimmies on the 1st Thursday of the month! Thanks for the memories Jake! God Bless!
