Ron Chaulk Clair

May 10, 2018

CHARLOTTE – Ron Chaulk Clair, 80, died peacefully on May 10, 2018 in Charlotte, NC.

Ron was born in Allegan, Michigan on March 17, 1938, the only child of Lucy Haygreen Clair and Francis Oscar Clair.  Ron graduated for Allegan High School and Western Michigan University.  Ron married Nancy Ann Cook and after college joined the family business, Flashes Publishers, Inc.  Ron retired and the business was sold in 1985.

After retirement, Ron spent many happy decades splitting his time between south Florida and the mountains of North Carolina.  Ron had a passion for golf and enjoyed his rounds as a beginner at Ot-Well-Egan and later at Kalamazoo CC.  Ron played countless golf courses during his lifetime and especially enjoyed his rounds in the British Isles, Pinehurst, and Elk River, Banner Elk.

Ron was amused by hearing and telling jokes, and he had an uncanny ability to recall a joke for any occasion.  He was a voracious reader and appreciated many types of music, especially jazz.  Ron will be remembered for his quick wit and infectious smile.  He was a loving and caring Poppa to his granddaughters and a generous man to many.

In addition to his parents and wife, Mary Eurara Clair, Ron was preceded in death by his oldest son, Stacy Charles Clair.  Ron is survived by his son Kelly Clair of Fort Myers, FL., his granddaughters Spencer Margaret Clair of Denver, CO and Flannery Katherine Clair of Chapel Hill, NC, and his former daughter-in-law Margaret Hemric and her husband Gary.

Ron especially was grateful to those who cared for him as his health declined.  Thank you to Plantation Estates Healthcare and Hospice and Palliative Care of Charlotte for their care, concern, and compassion.

In respect of Ron’s wishes, there will not be a memorial service.

Arrangements are in the care of Kenneth Poe Funeral & Cremation Service, 1321 Berkeley Ave., Charlotte, NC 28204; (704) 641-7606. Online condolences can be shared at www.kennethpoeservices.com.

Ron was a joy to know. I had the honor of caring for him while he was on my unit at Plantation Estates.
