David Hart Swaney

CHARLOTTE – David Hart Swaney passed away peacefully at home, on Sunday, May 6, 2018. David was born January 23, 1949 to the late Lester Augustus Swaney and Evelyn Hart Shipes.  As a native of Charlotte, he was a business leader in the flooring industry.  Mr. Swaney was the President and Owner of Charlotte Flooring, Inc.  His true passion was the well-being of those people he called family and friends. David made a difference in the lives of many people. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his children, Brian David Swaney, Alexandra Hart Swaney, Gabrielle Christian Swaney and his grandchildren, Hart Benjamin Swaney, and Cole Steven Swaney, whom he loved dearly.

His surviving family includes his sisters, Tammy Swaney Byrnes of Huntersville, NC, Leslie Swaney Smith of Rock Hill, SC, Kathy Lee Swaney of Rock Hill, SC, Rita Guiney, of Charlotte, NC, MaryAnn Herring, of Lincolnton, NC and brother, John Shipes III, of Norcross, GA.

David was predeceased by his brother, Donald Ray Swaney.

The family’s deepest thanks go to the caregivers at Peaceful Home Care, LLC.

A celebration of his life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, May 11, 2018 , in the Belk Chapel at Queens University of Charlotte.  Family will receive friends following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial may be sent to Make a Wish Foundation, 1131 Harding Place, Charlotte, NC 28204.
