CHARLOTTE – Mary Wheless Southall, “Maw-maw”, 91, was called to her heavenly home on April 11, 2018.  She was born on May 5, 1926, daughter of Claude and Grace Wheless of Louisburg, NC.  Mary moved to Charlotte in 1949 and attended First Baptist Church for over forty years.  She worked with and nurtured young children at First Baptist teaching them about God’s love. This was a great experience watching them grow into young adults.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Perry Ricks Southall in 2008.  In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.  She is survived by a son, Jeffrey Southall and a daughter, Cindy Haston, and her husband, Don; grandsons, Brandon Haston and his wife, Michelle, Brent Haston and his wife, Kristal, and Jonathan Haston and his wife, Jordy; three great-granddaughters, Hannah Faith Haston, Sadie Grace Haston, and Mary Caroline Haston, who were the love and joy of Mary’s life; a sister, Janie Medlin of Fayetteville, NC and a brother, Spencer Wheless of Seattle, WA; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service for Mary Southall will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at Sharon Baptist Church, 6411 Sharon Road, Charlotte.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 at the church, prior to the funeral.  Interment will be private for the family.
