Charles Meredith Worthington

CHARLOTTE - Charles Meredith (Chuck) Worthington passed away on March 6, 2018. Born on December 6, 1931, the middle son of the late Lyman John Worthington and Mary Magdalene Griffis Worthington in Grimesland, NC, Chuck served in the U S Air Force during the Korean Conflict after which he graduated from East Carolina University. His entire career was spent in sales, and he retired from Kraft Foods.

A long-time member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, NC, Chuck was ordained as an Elder in 1984 and served on the Session in various Ministry Teams. Except for his tour with the Air Force, Chuck spent his entire life in his beloved state of North Carolina.

He was predeceased by his first wife and the mother of his two daughters, Judith Murrill Howe Worthington. He is survived by his wife, Frances Jeanette Williams Worthington, his daughters Deborah Ann Wilkinson and husband, Donald, of Hendersonville, NC and Kimberly Lynn Sawyers and husband, Timothy, of Charlotte, NC; stepsons William L. Slavich and wife, Susan, of Boca Raton, FL and Francis E. Slavich and wife, Kathy, of Durham, NC; stepdaughter Denise S. Hixson and husband, William, of Charlotte, NC; his brothers, Lyman Griffis Worthington of Raleigh, NC and David Jan Worthington and wife, Gloria, of Piedmont, SC; nephews, Dr. Bryan Worthington of Simpsonville, SC and Anthony Worthington (Gwen) of Greer, SC and twelve grandchildren.

The family wishes to acknowledge the caring, compassionate and supporting service of the South Team of Hospice and Palliative Care of Charlotte and the caregivers from Golden Heart Senior Care.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 3115 Providence Road, Charlotte NC 28211 after the which the family will greet guests in the Parlor.

 In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to Trinity Presbyterian Church, Hospice and Palliative Care of Charlotte or the charity of their choice.

    Obviously I didn't know your Charles but I want to express my condolences to you at his loss. You have been so warm and welcoming to my family that I feel I know you well although it really has been a very brief time.     I meet Chuck in 1969 when he was with Seaboard Foods , and worked out of Raleigh , NC.I can truly say that Chuck was as kind, and caring person as you would ever meet. We all know Chuck is in a much better place today. My condolence goes out to Fran, and Chucks family Jerry Walters.
