William "Pete" Milton Griffith, Sr.

August 6, 2017

William "Pete" Milton Griffith, Sr., 80, of Charlotte, NC, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday August 6, 2017, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born May 16, 1937, son of the late Margaret Morton & Bobbie Lee Griffith. Pete served 4 years in the United States Air Force from 1954-1958. That's where he discovered his fascination with electrical work, while performing his duties as an instrument technician. Upon his discharge, he served an electrical apprenticeship with Robinson Electric & became a journeyman electrician. He soon went to work as an electrical inspector for the City of Charlotte where he remained, until he retired after 30 years. During his tenure, Pete became Chief of the Electrical Inspection Department, where he assisted in the merger of the City & County. He continued to serve in that position until his retirement.

Pete was a member of Steele Creek Presbyterian Church, where he served on the Cemetery Committee, was elected Deacon and taught Sunday school. He was a member of the Steele Creek Masonic Lodge #737 & Steele Creek OES #339. Although Pete had many accomplishments in his lifetime, the one that mattered most to him was that of Husband, Father, Brother, Uncle, all around family man, and loyal friend. The times he enjoyed the most were the get-togethers, dinners, picnics and basically any time he could spend with loved ones.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ruth Moody Griffith; one son, W.M. Griffith, Jr. “Bill/Bubba” and his wife, Suk Griffith of Belmont; one daughter, Rene Griffith of Charlotte; one sister, Bobbie Watts of Charlotte; step-grandchildren Sheena, Mack, & Cora; step-great-grandson Korbin; and special nieces and nephews, Robin & Heidi, David and Donna, Marian, Butch & Susan, Connie, Annette, Darlene & Pete. A special Thank You to the Doctors and Nurses at the Levine Cancer Institute, Charlotte Medical Clinic, CMC Pineville & also to Jacques at Hospice & Palliative Care Charlotte Region, for the care they provided.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 17, 2017, at 2:00PM at Steele Creek Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Dr. Jeff Pinkston officiating. A visitation and reception with follow in the Bledsoe Family Life Center. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either the Steele Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery Fund, 7407 Steele Creek Road, Charlotte, NC 28217 or the Levine Cancer Institute, c/o Carolinas Healthcare Foundation, 208 East Blvd. Charlotte, NC 28203.
