Brenda Pickler Casteen

June 20, 2017

Brenda Pickler Casteen, age 65, died unexpectedly at her home on June 20, 2017.   She was born on October 16, 1951, in Albemarle, North Carolina, and was one of three daughters of Maurice and Adelaide Pickler.

Brenda graduated from North Stanly High School in 1969 and attended Guilford College in Greensboro, NC. She moved to Charlotte and in April 1975 she married Jim Casteen. Brenda was a devoted wife and proud mother of her only son, Jake. She supported both her husband and son in their many activities. She was an amazing cook and baker and loved to entertain. An accomplished seamstress, she created clothes as well as decorative accessories for their home. One of her joys was getting ideas from attending Decorator Home and Garden Tours. The light of her life was her granddaughter, Adelaide. They had recently enjoyed sleepovers, swimming lessons and attending a family reunion.

During most of her career, Brenda was a Legal Secretary for various attorneys at Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein LLC. Later she was an Administrative Assistant at Park Road Baptist Church. As a volunteer for the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center, Brenda expressed her love for the arts, music and theatre.

Brenda is survived by her son, Jacob Allen Casteen, his wife Aurora and Brenda's granddaughter, Adelaide Millie Casteen, all of Charlotte: her mother, Adelaide M. Pickler, of Raleigh, two sisters, Janet Gaskins and husband Greg of Raleigh and Lynn Ballard and husband Wade and son Steven, of Lexington, KY. She was predeceased by her husband, Jim, in 2009 and her father, Maurice Pickler, in 2012.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at 11A.M. at Selwyn Avenue Presbyterian Church. A reception and visitation will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Selwyn Avenue Presbyterian Church, 2929 Selwyn Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28209.

I love my grandmother very much. It was so sad when she died, but then as I started to grow up, I realized she is now with God in Heaven. I wish I could've grow up for the 3 years I did with her. I pray for her soul.
