Helen "Eleni" Karres

Helen “Eleni” Karres, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 20, 2017 at the age of 89. Born December 13, 1927 in Klada, Sparti, Greece. She was the daughter of the late Panayiotis and Aikaterini Alexandrakis, and sister, of the late Dimitrios, Constantinos and Kostoula (Karkouli) Alexandrakis. Helen married Theodore Nick Karres in 1951 and in 1958 they moved from Karyes, Lakonia, Greece to Charlotte, NC with their daughter, Patricia. Helen retired after 40 years of service at Iveny/Dillards and Belks in the alterations departments. While in Charlotte she was an active member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, Philoptochos and the Ladies of Karyae. Helen was was predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Theodore in 1999 and in 2010 Helen moved to Toronto to live with her daughter, Patricia and her family. A spiritual and loving mother and grandmother, Helen will be missed by all her family and friends throughout the U.S., Canada and Greece.  

Helen is survived by her daughter, Patricia Diamantouros (formerly of Charlotte), her son-in law, Efthymios (Tom) and granddaughter, Cristina, all of Toronto, Canada. Helen is also survived by her step-daughter, Maria Panagiotopoulou and her husband, Christos and granddaughters, Anthee and Vivi of Piraeus, Greece, as well as many nieces and nephews in the U.S. and Greece. 

Funeral service and Trisagion for Mrs. Karres will be held on Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at 11:00 AM at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
