Anthony "Tony" Soja

January 25, 2017

Anthony “Tony” Soja passed away peacefully on January 25, 2017 in Charlotte, NC surrounded by his wife, Sacha, and daughter, Antonia “Addie.” Tony was born on June 9, 1956 in New York, NY. After growing up on the island of Grosse Ile, MI, Tony attended the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. Tony eventually moved back to New York City, where he worked as an Art Director for Big City Films under the tutelage of Steve Steigman. In 1992, Tony moved to Los Angles, CA where he ran three of the largest specialty construction and special effects companies in the film and television industry. It was there on Warner Brothers Stage 14 where met his loving wife, Sacha Adele Soja (née Field).

Tony and Sacha married in Monterey, CA in August 1995 and welcomed daughter Antonia Adele “Addie” Soja in 1997. In 2010, the Sojas relocated to Nashville, TN and then to Charlotte, NC in 2010. Tony had a natural gift for putting life’s challenges into perspective, appreciating the smallest of moments and simplest of kind gestures. He most loved road trips and spending simple time with his wife, Sacha, and daughter, Addie. Tony is also survived by his mother, Lyn, sisters, Gena and Maggy, and nieces, Lynsey and Madelyn. Tony’s joy and passion for life and family will be greatly missed.

Outside Mrs. MacDonald's (spell?) French classroom one day circa 1970, Tony and I were both wearing white turtlenecks, Stewart plaid (tartan) bell bottoms with the huge cuffs, plus the super high platform shoes . . . except Tony. Looked. Cool. As always. (If you were short of the "forty-five" cents for lunch, you had a decent shot at finding a quarter in those cuffs.) I remember how Tony would stand there telling a story, laughing, sometimes rocking from foot to foot, kicking one foot then the other if the laughter really got rolling. He's still shining.
