Laura Carpenter Tucker passed away unexpectedly on May 4, 2026 at her home in Charlotte. She was 68 years old.
Laura was preceded in death by her mother, Anne Pease Carpenter, and father, Thomas Sanders Carpenter. She was also predeceased by her husband, John Peyton Tucker Jr. Laura is survived by her brother Tom and wife Beth, her brother Rob and partner Jennifer Steinmetz, her niece Abigail, and her stepmother, Gretchen Johnston Carpenter.
Laura was born and raised in Charlotte and lived in the area for most of her life. She was educated at Charlotte Country Day School, South Mecklenburg High School and East Carolina University. In her younger days, Laura rode horses and competed in regional equestrian events. Her early love of horses was coupled with her enduring love of dogs. Her four Bouvier terriers and her cockapoo Bandit provided hours of loyal companionship and entertainment.
Laura and Peyton loved the beach. They met at Wrightsville and spent many happy days there and at Kiawah Island, Vancouver Island, both coasts of Florida and anywhere else with sunshine and salt water. They lived at Lake Norman for 20 years, where Laura spent the first part of her career in residential real estate. She returned to Charlotte after Peyton’s death and spent 13 years as a top leasing agent for Marsh Associates, retiring in late 2025.
Laura was fiercely loyal to her family and her close circle of friends, who were the most important part of her life. She loved good food and was an outstanding cook, and dinner at Laura’s home was always a special treat. She was an avid reader and always current on the latest crime and mystery novels. Laura never missed watching her Panthers on Sunday, and she loved the Kentucky Derby.
Laura was a good spirit who took great joy in the simple pleasures of life. She had a fine sense of humor and loved to have fun. Shine on you crazy diamond.
