Vito Frank Marsicano

CHARLOTTE - Vito Frank Marsicano died on January 15, 2025 at Givens Aldersgate Retirement Community in Charlotte, NC.  He was born on April 19,1929 to the late Francesco and Francesca Priore Marsicano.  He grew up in Amsterdam, NY before attending Jacksonville State University in Alabama where he earned a bachelor’s degree in 1953 and Hofstra University in NY where he earned a master’s degree in education in 1958.  An all-around athlete, Mr. Marsicano played varsity basketball and football in high school, varsity baseball and football in college and enjoyed skiing and golf in his later years.  

After serving in the army, Mr. Marsicano enjoyed a long career as a popular high school math teacher and football coach in Huntington, NY.  In addition, Mr. Marsicano worked as a carpenter in the summers and often on weekends to send his sons to college.  After an early retirement to Leeds, Alabama, Mr. Marsicano used his carpentry and handy man skills to great effect on behalf of his family members, the Leeds Arts Council theater productions, Carpenters for Christ missions and later, The Kimberlee homeowner’s association in Charlotte.  Mr. Marsicano was a faithful member of other community and service organizations including Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, (a music fraternity), Knights of Columbus and as a trumpet player in community orchestras.  He was known as a generous host to his friends and family. 

In addition to his parents, Mr. Marsicano was predeceased by his wife, Christine Sharp Marsicano, his five siblings (Sophia, Carmella, Anna, Frank, and John) and their spouses. He is survived by his sons Michael and wife, Leslie and Danny and wife, Barbara.  Also surviving are grandchildren Danielle and husband, Chris Messina; Scott Marsicano; Stephane and husband, Joe Guglielmo; Gregg Marsicano; Christopher and wife, Michelle Marsicano; Jamie Marsicano; and David Marsicano and partner Anna Wohlbold. Surviving great-grandchildren are Jaxson, Nico, and Harlan Messina, Grace Marsicano, and Lillian Guglielmo.

A Catholic Mass will be held at Givens Aldersgate Chapel (3800 Shamrock Road) on Friday, February 6, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends following the service in the nearby parlor.  Interment will be beside his wife in the Sharp family cemetery in Leeds, Alabama. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that friends consider donating to Carolina Youth Coalition, a program for under-resourced high school students to and through college at 6035 Florence Avenue, Suite 200, Charlotte, NC 28212.
