Betty Jean Hunting
January 11, 2026
CHARLOTTE – Betty Jean Hunting, lovingly known as “Bebe” to her family, was born on February 24, 1933, on the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC and passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 11, 2026, in Charlotte, NC surrounded by her family.
Bebe started her college years at Berea College in Kentucky and graduated from East Carolina Teachers College. She was a third-grade teacher who helped guide young minds and who enjoyed teaching cursive handwriting.
Bebe was an active member of Sharon United Methodist Church, now SouthPark Church, where she served her church family in many ways. She enjoyed being with her friends at church, at the bridge table, and at Cedarwood Country Club, and particularly enjoyed being anywhere her grandchildren were gathered. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
The Biltmore Estate always held a special place in Bebe’s heart. Bebe and her husband, Keith grew up there and created many fond memories.
Bebe is survived by her husband of over 71 years, Keith Hunting, with whom she shared a lifetime of love and devotion; her children, Pamela Gwaltney and her husband, Tim and Stephen Hunting and his wife, Mary; her cherished grandchildren, Taylor Rose and her husband, Matt, Lauren Gwaltney, John Hunting, M.D., and William Hunting, and her great-grandchildren, Townes Rose and Annie Rose.
Services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to VIA Health Partners, www.viahp.org. The family is grateful for the gentle care the caregivers at Via Health Partners, including the Levine & Dickson Hospice House at Southminster, provided to her.
