James Franklin Huckabee

October 12, 2025
CHARLOTTE - James “Jim” Franklin Huckabee, proud father of two and devoted husband, died at home on October 12, 2025, of complications from an earlier fall.
Jim was born in Monroe, NC on January 20, 1935, to John James Huckabee and Ruby Kathryne H. Williamson. He graduated from Monroe High School in 1954, where he was known for being a sharp dresser. Following high school he married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Crook. He served his country in the US Army from 1958 to 1960 and had a long career in sales, first at Firestone and finally with Atlantic Packaging Corporation (formerly Henley Paper Company) where he worked for over 40 years.
Jim took great pride in being a father and grandfather and was known for providing life lessons. This extended into his sons’ activities, where he served as the Scoutmaster with the Boys Scouts of America for two troops, including Troop 118. He was also involved with the East Mecklenburg High School Marching Band. For over fifty years, Jim was a Mason and served in the patrol unit of the Oasis Shrine. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking, tennis and - most importantly - golf.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, John James Huckabee and Ruby Kathryne H. Williamson and his brother David Helms. He is survived by Barbara, his wife of 70 years, sons James Scott Huckabee and Brian Keith (Ellen) Huckabee, grandsons Brendan James Huckabee and Adam Frank (Ilene) Huckabee, his sister-in-law Ann Helms, and several nephews.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Pauline Gray with Visiting Angels for the loving care and comforting presence she provided to Jim.
A public visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 17, 2025 at St. Stephen United Methodist Church in Charlotte, North Carolina with the funeral following at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Lakeland Memorial Park, Monroe, North Carolina. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Via Health Partners (Hospice), PO Box 470408, Charlotte, NC 28247 or Oasis Shrine Headquarters, 604 Doug Mayes Place, Charlotte, NC 28262.
Arrangements are in the care of Kenneth Poe Funeral & Cremation Service, 1321 Berkeley Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28204. Online condolences may be shared at www.kennethpoeservices.com.

Brian (Ellen), I will try very hard to find the words to comfort you and your family and to express my deepest condolences in your time of sorrow. Know that your father is smiling down on you and your family right now. He is in a better place and although you will feel his loss physically, mentally and spiritually he will always be with you. Keep your memories close and know that your friends are here to help whenever you need us. God has you and your family wrapped up right now and will keep you in His arms for as long as you need Him. Lean into Him and have faith that time will heal your heart.
