Gloria G. Velásquez

June 20, 2025
CHARLOTTE – With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Gloria G. Velásquez, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who departed this life on Friday, June 20, 2025, at the age of 84.
Born in Bogotá, Colombia, Gloria carried with her the vibrant spirit of her homeland, gracing the lives of everyone she encountered with warmth, grace, and a boundless capacity for love and most of all faith. She was the cherished wife of Victor J. Velasquez, to whom she was faithfully married for 67 years. Their marriage was a shining testament to enduring devotion, and Gloria was truly the love of his life. A love that will never be replaced.
Gloria was the proud and loving mother of Gloria Sandra Jones, Cesar Agusto Velasquez, Juan Carlos Velasquez, Julio “Mickey” Velasquez, and mother in-law of Diana Velasquez. Gloria reunites in eternal peace with her dear daughter, Gloria Sandra and grandson Carl Olson. She found immense joy in her role as grandmother to Luis J., Jacob T., Alicia M., Juliana C., Daniella M. Velasquez, and Michael Olson.
Gloria’s gentle spirit continues to shine through her great-grandchildren—Ava J., Juliette M., Christian T. Velasquez, and Charlotte T. Olson—each a bright light shaped by the enduring love and legacy she passed down through generations. Her family continued to grow with the additions of two beautiful granddaughter in-laws, Heather Velasquez and Megan Olson.
Family and friends are invited to honor and celebrate Gloria’s life at a Memorial Mass at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 28,2025, at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church, 6828 Old Reid Road, Charlotte, NC. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
We gather not only to reflect on the profound mark she left on our hearts, but to honor the love, strength, and grace that defined her life.
Gloria’s life was a legacy of selflessness, strength, and faith. Her love was unconditional, her presence comforting, and her memory eternal. She was the perfect example of a Godly woman. Though she is no longer with us in body, her spirit surrounds us—in every shared family story, every gentle laugh, and every act of kindness inspired by her example.
Arrangements are in the care of Kenneth W. Poe Funeral & Cremation Service, 1321 Berkeley Ave., Charlotte, NC 28204; (704) 641-7606. Online condolences may be shared at www.kennethpoeservices.com.
