Margaret Miller Mackay

June 8, 2025
CHARLOTTE – Margaret Miller Mackay, 57, of Charlotte, North Carolina, died peacefully on Sunday, June 8, 2025, surrounded by her beloved family.
Margaret was born on May 30, 1968, in Charlotte to William Brevard and Patricia Brainard Miller. She grew up in Monroe, North Carolina, alongside her brother Robert, and attended Saint Mary’s School in Raleigh. Margaret was a woman of grace, laughter, and generosity. The kind of friend, daughter, wife, and mother who made life feel warmer and brighter.
While attending school in Atlanta, Margaret met Andrew at a bar called Grumpy’s. The moment she walked in, she lit up the room and immediately caught Andrew’s eye. Drawn to her warmth and energy, he nervously tried to strike up a conversation, absentmindedly shredding a napkin in the process. Margaret teasingly pointed it out, prompting Andrew to toss the pieces into the air, like confetti and exclaim, “Happy Margaret Day!” From that moment on, the two were inseparable.
Margaret and Andrew built a beautiful life together, full of love, family, and deep-rooted joy. She devoted herself to raising their two sons, Wes and Miller, with quiet strength and unwavering devotion. She also shared her time and talents as a volunteer and staff member at The Good News Shop, the Christ Church Kitchen, and as a beloved substitute teacher at Christ Church Kindergarten.
Margaret had a deep love for her community and her friends. She was an avid Mahjongg player, a competitive pickleball player, and a cherished member of her book club. Whether she was preparing a meal, organizing a gathering, or sharing a laugh over coffee, Margaret brought thoughtfulness and sparkle to every corner of her life.
She is survived by her husband, Andrew Mackay; her children, Wes Mackay, daughter-in-law Rachel, Miller Mackay; her parents, William (Dubba) and Patricia (Gammy) Miller; her brother, Robert Miller and his wife Krista; her niece and nephews, Anna Claire, Zach, and Davis Miller, and Ian Mackay. Margaret will also be missed dearly by the family’s beloved dog, Stella.
A service to celebrate Margaret’s life will be held at Christ Episcopal Church on Monday, June 16th at 11:00 a.m. All who knew and loved her are welcome to attend.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made in Margaret’s honor to Atrium Health Levine Cancer Institute: All-In To Fight Cancer Fund
Arrangements are in the care of Kenneth W. Poe Funeral & Cremation Service, 1321 Berkeley Ave., Charlotte, NC 28204; (704) 641-7606. Online condolences may be shared at www.kennethpoeservices.com.
