Josephine Lasater Warren

May 12, 2025
CHARLOTTE - Josephine Lasater Warren, 98, passed on ahead of us on Monday, May 12, 2025, following a wonderful journey of life filled with service, love, joy and gratitude.
Jeck, as she was affectionately known, was born at home on her family’s farm near Buies Creek, NC, on February 14, 1927. She was the fifth of six children born to Eugene Herndon Lasater and Josephine Stuart Lasater.
Jeck grew up and attended school in Buies Creek, graduating as High School Valedictorian, in 1944, at age 17. She attended Campbell Junior College from 1944-1946 and graduated from the Women’s College of the University of North Carolina (now UNC-G) in 1948, with a BS degree in PE, Heath and Recreation.
Following college, Jeck was appointed as the Director of the Women’s Athletic Department at Campbell College. From 1948-1950, Jeck taught Physical Education classes, Health and coached the women’s basketball team.
It was during her time at Campbell that she met the love of her life, C. Carl Warren, Jr. They were married in September 1950. Carl and Jeck eventually settled in Charlotte, NC, to raise their five children, after Carl attended medical school at UNC and became an Anesthesiologist, practicing first at Mercy Hospital and then at Presbyterian Hospital. Jeck and Carl were partners in every aspect of life and were married for 58 years, until Carl’s passing in early 2009.
Jeck was devoted to her children and grandchildren and always had time to carpool, coach, cook for and counsel a crowd of children and friends. Nothing made her happier that to watch her children and grandchildren play board games each night during the yearly family beach trips. She was the ultimate referee!
In addition to her family, Jeck was devoted to her faith and church, St. John’s Baptist. She was very active at church, where she taught the Joy Sunday School Class for over 30 years. Jeck served on numerous committees, but her favorites were the Adult Committee and the Recreation Committee. She coached church basketball teams for many years, ending her coaching career in her 70’s, after 50 years of coaching! She served faithfully as a Deacon, Life Deacon and was named the first female Chair of the Deaconate in 1989.
Her greatest joy was combining her faith and her teaching background to ensure enriching and intergenerational activities for “re-creation.” Her leadership of the Craft Class, WMU, Celebrate St. John’s, basketball (and recreation, in general,) Women of the Church and so many other activities is a testament to her living an “actively faithful, faithfully active life.”
Jeck also served the medical community with her leadership on the MMAE’s Inn Board of Directors for 7 years and the Medical Auxiliary.
Jeck enjoyed many years of membership in the Kosmos Book Club, one of Charlotte’s oldest book clubs.
Jeck spread joy to all who knew her. She is survived by her five children, thirteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren: Bob Warren and his wife, Beth; David Warren and his wife, Carol; Mary Jo Breckenridge and her husband, Bill; Mark Warren; and Cathy DuFault and her husband, David. She was the proud grandmother of Jason Warren and his wife, Holly; Lesley Clavijo and her husband, Arturo; Andrew Warren; Mark Warren and his wife, Jessie; Chris Warren; Karen Miller and her husband, Will; Jeff Breckenridge and his wife, Courtney; Kate Earp and her husband, Brandon; Will Warren and his wife, Carson; Madison Sinicki and her husband, Keaston; Ashley Siddons and her husband, Tommy; Reid DuFault; Gray DuFault, and great-grandchildren, Sydney, Arthur, Mills and Rose Warren, Gavin and Jude Clavijo, Grayson Earp, Jack and Ellie Breckenridge. Mason Warren, Hadleigh and Scarlett Sinicki.
Jeck is also survived by her sister-in-law, Louise Warren and numerous beloved nieces and nephews from the Lasater and Warren/Poe families.
Jeck moved to Waltonwood Providence in early 2015 and was recently recognized as the resident who had lived at Waltonwood the longest. The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers in Assisted Living and Memory Care who took such loving care of Jeck. She loved each of them and was appreciative of all they did for her daily to assist her.
A memorial service to celebrate Jeck’s life will be held on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at 1:30 pm at St. John’s Baptist Church with the Reverend Dennis Foust, Senior Minister, officiating. The family will receive friends immediately after the service in Broach Hall at the church. Memorials may be made to St. John’s Baptist Church, 300 Hawthorne Lane, Charlotte, NC 28204.
Arrangements are in the care of Kenneth W. Poe Funeral & Cremation Service, 1321 Berkeley Ave., Charlotte, NC 28204; (704) 641-7606. Online condolences may be shared at www.kennethpoeservices.com.

Jeck and Carl were some of the most influential people in my life. They were so sweet to open their lovely home for St. John’s Youth parties when we were growing up. Jeck gave a bridal shower for me which provided such wonderful memories. They came to have dinner with us when we were living in New Zealand. They and their children have meant so much to me!
