Mary Barbara Bryant

Mary Barbara Bryant (Stiglic), loving wife and beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 25, 2025 at the age of 83 after a brief illness.

Born on May 29,1941 to Croatian parents Anna Blazevic Stiglic and Stephen Matthew Stiglic, Mary was the youngest of seven children, Stephen, Joseph, Anne, Frank, Carl, John and Mary.

She married James R. Bryant Jr. (Pete) on June 18, 1960 in Dryden, New York and remained a dedicated wife and caregiver after an illness left Pete homebound. They worked and raised three children in Dryden and from the beginning, Mary embraced motherhood and focused on nurturing her family and being an active member of her community by volunteering her time to numerous groups and causes.

Mary worked several jobs, finishing her career at the Town of Ithaca Building Department after over 20 years.

After retirement, Mary and Pete moved to Charlotte to be closer to and more involved in her children’s and grandson’s lives. She loved all the baseball and soccer games, rowing regattas, birthday parties, graduations and family gatherings, especially Christmas.

She loved cooking and baking, especially baking, and was well known for her impromptu gifts of chocolate chip cookies. She always had time for lunches with good friends, crafting and sewing, knitting newborn hats and booties with The Knit Wits, bowling leagues, walking and talking her way around the neighborhood every day, and attending Mass at St. Gabriel Catholic Church,

Mary is survived by her children Matthew James Bryant (Scott Melrose) of Los Angeles, CA, Stephanie Adrianne Bryant (Dr. Evan Long), of Charlotte, NC, Andrew Cullen Bryant (Kary Gildersleeve) of Charlotte, NC, her grandson Evan James Bryant Long (Denver, CO), Benjamin Bryant Long (Charlotte NC), Dylan Richard Bryant (Charlotte NC) and Colby White Bryant (Charlotte NC) and several nieces and nephews. All will remember her fondly for her gentle nature, warm smile and devotion to family.

She was predeceased by her parents, siblings and her husband of 51 years, James who passed on October 20, 2011.

A funeral mass will be held on May 29, 2025 at 11 AM at Saint Gabriel Catholic Church in Charlotte, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Levine & Dixon Hospice House Southminster in her name. 8919 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28210.
