Margaret Kathleen (Tess) Boshamer

April 28, 2025

Tess Boshamer passed away on April 28. She is survived by husband Ulf, daughters Britt Yett and Andrea Powell (husband Kurt) and grandchildren Davis Powell, Lillie Powell, Connor Yett, and Luke Yett as well as siblings Nancy Anderson, Andrew (Pick) Collins, Joe Collins, and Richard Collins. She was preceded in death by older sister Joe Ann Dickson.

As one of six children, Tess grew up “wild and free” on a farm in Denmark, SC. The family moved to Chester when she was 4, where she excelled through the years in school and sports, traits she would later pass to her grandchildren. She also gained a reputation as a tough cookie, famously throwing Richard Monteith over the hedge on her way home from school. She graduated from Winthrop College with a BA in physical education and eventually moved to Charlotte to teach PE while working to integrate two public schools. It was on a trip to Charleston with friends where she would meet Ulf, the love of her life and her eventual partner of 56 years, whose first words to her were, “You have a hole in your shirt!” Who says romance is dead?

Tess’ truest calling was that of wife to Ulf, mother to Britt and Andrea, and Omi to her four grandchildren. When her daughters were young, she redefined what it meant to “stay at home,” creating a loving roost for her brood, making gourmet lunches, staying involved in school committees, cheering from the bleachers, and managing to sneak in rounds of golf in her spare time. Her greatest joy later in life was watching her grandchildren excel: on the basketball court, tennis court, and on the stage. She rarely missed a game or a performance. She had a keen eye for aesthetics, supporting the Mint Museum, studying antiques, and creating beautiful flower arrangements for friends and family. Tess will be remembered for always having her nose in a book (she was a strong advocate of the public library), delighting friends with her infectious laugh, her love of white bread and Coca Cola, a legendary cheesecake, and banana pudding that could make you weep.

A celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2025 at 11:00 am at Myers Park United Methodist Church. Family will receive friends and loved ones in the Assembly Hall on the 4th floor of the Center of Hope directly following the service.

Tess was my friend, my soul mate, my encouragement and support, my light in times of darkness and despair. She is the one that I would call and cry with over the loss of good friends. Now, what will I do?
Tess was bigger than life, stronger than steel, a master among the others. She could do anything... create beautiful bouquets, decorate lavishly and lovingly for any occasion, raise beautiful, talented girls, play any sport that she felt deserved her efforts, and so very much more, but you already know all this! Now our treasured memories will have to help us slowly fill this huge hole. All my love, my friend,
    Peach
