Aida Paula Suarez

February 24, 2025

CHARLOTTE – Aida Paula Suarez, 94, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on Monday, February 24, 2025, due to heart failure.

Born on January 15, 1931, in Pinar del Rio, Cuba, she was the fifth daughter of eight children born to the late Alberto and Patricia (Rodriguez) Gort.  Aida taught elementary school in Cuba until the family immigrated to the United States in 1967 due to the communist regime of Fidel Castro.  She lived in Florida until her husband Angel Orlando Suarez passed away in 2008 at which time she came to live in Charlotte with her oldest daughter Aida and her family.

Aida was an active member at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church teaching Kindergarten in Faith Formation for 10 years (2008-2018).  For the last five years she enjoyed assisting in the day care of her great-grandchildren, Cecilia and Felicity.  She had the heart of a servant, always doing something for others, and caring for everyone in the family.  Her greatest joy were her family and her faith.  She loved Jesus and above her door, no matter where she lived, there was always a painting of the Sacred Heart that she received as a wedding gift in 1953, and to whom she prayed daily.  She also participated daily in the Holy Mass, Rosary, and Divine Mercy Chaplet through EWTN in Spanish.  She had great devotion to our Blessed Mother Mary.

Aida is survived by her two daughters, Aida (Ruben) Tamayo and Ana Yolanda (Dennis) Holland; four grandchildren Danny Diaz, Andrew Tamayo, Amanda (Nelson) Ayson, Patrick Diaz and four great-grandchildren, Angel and Elijah Diaz and Cecilia and Felicity Ayson.

A visitation with Rosary will be held from 6:30-7:30 PM on Monday, March 3, 2025, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 6828 Old Reid Rd, Charlotte, NC.  Her Funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday March 4, 2025.  Interment will be private.

Aida’s kindness, love and care for everyone will be greatly missed by her family and friends. The family wants to thank everyone for all their prayers, love, and support.

Arrangements are in the care of Kenneth W. Poe Funeral & Cremation Service, 1321 Berkeley Ave., Charlotte, NC 28204; (704) 641-7606.  Online condolences may be shared at www.kennethpoeservices.com.

My dear aunt Aida was a very sweet lady, loving and caring for her family. She was the one aunt that was present at the most important events of my family. She loved Jesus and prayed for all our loved ones salvation. We will miss her. But we also will see her again!

Oh, Aida... what a beautiful ANGEL your mama was while on earth! I am sad for your loss of her - it's never easy to lose your mother! But I have no doubt that she will soon be meeting Her Creator, if she hasn't already. She leaves an amazing legacy in her beautiful family, and I will be praying for her soul and the comfort of all of you! May her beautiful soul rest in the peace of Christ. God bless you all.

Our deepest condolences, Audita & Yoli and family. We know how you all loved your Mom and Abuela, so much and provided a comfortable, loving environment for her. We realize there is nothing that can be said to fill the hole in your hearts right now. Just know she is waiting for you all in the next room. Speak her name as you always did. Laugh and remember her love always. She is just over the rainbow looking on us all, a better room to wait until we all get to rejoin her again.we love you Tia!
