Evangelia "Angie" Kroustalis

February 1, 2025

CHARLOTTE – Evangelia “Angie” Kroustalis, beloved mother, wife and grandmother passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday, February 1, 2025.  She was born in Viniani, Evrytania Greece to Vasilios and Chrisoula Nikopoulos.

Evangelia grew up and spent her childhood and teenage years in Greece.  Her first voyage to the United States came in 1967, to visit and stay with her brother and his wife, Tom and Laura Nixon.  She lived with the Nixon’s those first few years, before re-visiting her homeland in 1970, and it was at a “panegiri” near her hometown where she met the love of her life, Gregory.  They married in a few months and made the enormous decision to move to the United States, and settle in Charlotte, NC, where not only the Nixon’s lived, but many other young families from that same region in Karpenisi.

The family grew and the couple had two sons, George and Bill.  As her primary role pivoted to being a mom and homemaker, returning to work would have to wait as her time was filled with carpools and many soccer and basketball games.  However, she eventually returned to work to help open Greg’s Bar-B-Que in Matthews.  Like Gregory, Mrs. Angie loved serving and getting to know the customers and appreciated their patronage.  As many parishioners have shared their story of visiting Matthews over the years, and during the last few days, there was one common denominator they always found besides fried squash, her memorable smile and lots of laughter.

Family came first for Mrs. Angie, but church was a very close second.  She was an active member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church serving most of her life with Philoptochos Society and with the Daughters of Evrytania, where she created lifelong friendships with many special women.

Angie is survived by her loving sons, George Kroustalis and his fiancé, Alexa Panos and Bill Kroustalis and his wife Anastasia; granddaughter, Eva and grandson, Gregory.  She was predeceased by her husband, Gregory in 2021.

The family would like to give special thanks to her caregivers in recent years, who contributed to comfort and quality of life.

Funeral services will be held on at 10:30 AM on Friday, February 7, 2025, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.  Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.  The service will be livestreamed at:  https://vimeo.com/event/201751 for those unable to attend in person.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered in memory of Evangelia to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Foundation or to Philoptochos Society, 600 East Boulevard, Charlotte, NC 28203.

May her memory be eternal.
