Matt was one of the best men I have ever known. He was my roommate and training partner, travel buddy, church going brother and my opponent on the football field. Matt was a mans man and person you wanted on your side. We were recruited and both made the decision to come to ECU. Matt was competitive in everything he did. From who could eat the most chicken , to who could bench press the most.
He will be sorely missed by his teammates and anyone that knee him well. God bless you BROTHER?. I will miss our talks and competitions. RIP ❤️ -
Pat and Cole we have such wonderful memories of all of you and especially your dad living across the street from us in Beverly Crest. We are remembering his tough but kind personality and that is exactly what is said above. We are still here 25 years later. Ann we are thinking of you and missing all your family living across from us! Big hugs and please know we are keeping you all in our prayers.

Matt (never Matthew!) truly was an exceptional human being. It wasn't just his massive size and strength that commanded any room he entered, it was also his commanding personality and self-assurance that was so dominant. As the obituary made clear, there were many aspects of life that our brother contributed to meaningfully but there were definite areas where Matt's passion was fully engaged and visible. Those were his family, his faith, football, coaching young men playing football (and helping to shape their lives) and golf.
Matt was a man for whom nothing was impossible. He possessed an indomitable will, could employ enormous strength on call and was capable of absorbing massive pain with amazing stoicism. Matt was, in every way, a man's man. While my brothers and sisters and I believe wholeheartedly that our brother enjoys the perfect peace of Christ alongside our beloved Mom and Dad, we will miss our brother deeply. There will always be a hole in our family gatherings that will be the space that Matt fully and uniquely filled.
May our Lord bless and keep you, Matt I know you're teeing it up on heaven's front nine with Dad.
