CHARLOTTE –Carol Biggers Dabbs

January 23, 1938 - December 24, 2024

If you met Carol Dabbs it's likely you have not forgotten her. Just shy of 87 years, Emma Carol did it all. Along with her husband John she raised a loving family. She helped countless people along the way and made life a joy for anyone she encountered Her legacy is one of generosity, faith, philanthropy, laughter and good times. But always family first. She left an impact on everyone she met, whether it was in church, “the shop” or the post office. Carol was full of energy and she never slowed down.

Carol was born in Charlotte on January 23, 1938, the daughter of Irene and Howard Randolph Biggers. She attended Charlotte Country Day School and graduated from St Mary's College. Carol and John were married in June of 1958. They opened John Dabbs, Ltd in 1972 where they happily worked side by side. Following John’s death, running the shop with her daughters was a great joy and sense of pride in Carol’s life.

Carol was predeceased by her husband John Lawrence Dabbs III and brothers, Howard Biggers Jr. and Rennie Biggers. She is survived by her four daughters; Nan Loftin (Bill), Terry Lewis (Blake), Ginny Touma (Brad) and Boo Viser; grandchildren Martha Loftin Snell (Adam), Will Loftin, Nan Lewis Winborne (Brodie), John Lewis (Anna), Emma Carol Lewis Moore (Joe), Carter Touma, Rene Touma, Virginia Hart Touma, Mac Viser, Dabbs Viser, Tess Viser as well as 8 great grandchildren.

Carol lived in Charlotte and Blowing Rock. From an early young age, she saw needs in her community and worked to help wherever she could. Several organizations that were close to her heart were the Junior League of Charlotte, the Mint Museum, Crossnore School, Museum of the New South, Habitat for Humanity of Pinehurst, the Blowing Rock Art and History Museum. True to her fun-loving nature, Carol was active in the Charlotte Debutante Club, Nine O’Clocks, Charlotte Country Club and Blowing Rock Country Club. We, her girls are grateful to God for giving us this special lady.

A service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church in Charlotte Monday afternoon, December 30, 2024 at 2:00 PM. A reception will follow the service at the church.

To all of Carol daughters, we are deeply sorry to hear the loss of your mother. She was a wonderful person! I will miss Carol’s dearly! When ever Carol’s comes in that door at Matrix Nail to get her nails done she like my grandmother giving me advice and taught me how to over come on things. I will miss that voice and big smile of her!!

Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this incredibly difficult time. We will deeply miss Carol's presence in Blowing Rock. July 4th Picnics at the Country Club will not be the same without her or Loyd Smith. We will miss them dearly. As you look over the valley at the Howard house, know that her memory will live on with us always, bringing comfort and love in the days ahead.

    With heartfelt sympathy,
    The Burton Family

Carol was a longtime friend. We used to talk about Charlotte where we both grew up and lived. She was a true "Renaissance Lady," and a longtime friend to so many of us. We were neighbors in Blowing Rock. I will miss her smile and spirited conversations. Bill C.

Carol was a renaissance woman. Her interests, friends, adventures, and love of family were legendary.
Time spent with Carol was time to learn, to smile, to remember, and always to hear stories of her
wonderful family. I will miss you, Carol. You brightened my life. God speed. Joan
