Mary Rebecca Clemmer

November 17, 2024

CHARLOTTE – It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Rebecca Clemmer, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, on Sunday, November 17, 2024, at the age of 78.  She was a beautiful person inside and out who touched the lives of all who knew her.

Born on September 27, 1946, in Graham, North Carolina, Becky was the daughter of the late Mary Harden and Edward “Rock” Harden.  She spent her early years in Graham and then went to get her undergraduate degree from Appalachian State University and then a graduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she became a teacher of business in the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System.

Becky went on to be an accomplished teacher in business at West Mecklenburg High School and then move to Myers Park High School for the majority of her 35-year career with Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools.  She had a deep love for sewing, walking, spending time traveling to Blowing Rock, Pawleys Island, and weekends at the family’s beloved lake house.  Her biggest passion was following both her grand kids to all their sporting activities and taking them on vacations.   They loved there “BeBe” greatly for this and always looked for her in the stands.  Her compassion, kindness, and generosity left a lasting impression on all who met her.

She was the loving wife, mother, cherished grandmother, and dear friend to many. She also loved her German Shepherd grand dogs Dually (deceased), Holly and Doug Clemmer. Becky’s strength and wisdom will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

Becky is survived by her husband, Greg R. Clemmer; son, Greg Clemmer and his wife, Brandy; her grandchildren, GW and Gracie Clemmer; nieces, Ashely Wiggins and Becca Siler; one nephew; and three great-nieces.  Also surviving are her brother-in law, Phil Clemmer and her sister-in-law, Cindy Clemmer.  She was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Hensley and brother-in-law, Andy Hensley.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, November 25, 2024, at Sardis Presbyterian Church, 6100 Sardis Road, Charlotte, NC.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.  Interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.

When I think of Greg and Becky, they were always together. We will certainly miss that sweet smile of Becky’s.

Becky was one of my mother’s (Joan Belk) closest friends. Since mom and Becky were so close, my son and I were graced with Becky’s love. She was at every major event in my life from my nursing school graduation to most recently my son, Zachary and his wife Katie’s baby shower at the beginning of the year. When Zachary was a little boy, Becky would sometimes pick him up from school. He fondly remembers Becky taking him to see Tarzan. My father had many hospitalizations and Becky would always drop by to check in on my mother, brother and I. When my father passed Becky helped my mom with her grief. When my mother passed she helped me find my way through all the arrangements. I will miss her smile, her laugh and generous loving spirit. Our deepest condolences to your family.
