Lola Love Turner

July 31, 2024

CHARLOTTE – Lola Ann Love Turner, 93, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, moved on peacefully Wednesday, July 31, 2024.

Lola was born December 23,1930 to W. Erdman Love, Sr. and Annie Lola Arnold Love in Raleigh, NC.  She was raised in Charlotte, attended Eastover Elementary, Alexander Graham Jr. High and graduated from Central High School in 1948. She was a member of the class of 1952 at Limestone College in Gaffney, SC where she met her husband, Thomas P. Turner, Jr.

Lola grew up as a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, moving to Myers Park Presbyterian Church in 1944. Lola and Tom were married there on August 17, 1950 and were active lifelong members.  Lola taught Sunday school, was a Brownie and Cub Scout leader, and a member of the chancel choir for many years.

Lola spent her early married years as manager of family operations, and 17 years as a PTA volunteer.  Following that distinguished career, she entered the real estate profession as a Broker. In 1997, she joined Tom’s firm, Architectural Design/Environmental Planning, as the comptroller.

Lola enjoyed traveling with Tom during his years of service on the NC and the National American Institute of Architects Board of Directors, recreational time at her Lake Norman home with grandchildren, and water aerobics with Nadja.

For the past 9 years Lola has been a resident of The Cypress Club of Charlotte, where she was well known for her jokes, limericks, singing, whistling, friendships, and positive demeanor. She enjoyed her “Friend’s Club” and “the Lunch Bunch,” the pool, and daily lakeside visits to check on the wildlife and greet her neighbors and their dogs.

She tolerated Alzheimer’s disease with grace, dignity, and a sense of humor, thanks to the assistance of Dr. Charles Edwards II and the team at Memory and Movement Charlotte, for which we are most grateful.

In addition, the family is appreciative of the love, support and superb care Lola received from the Cypress Home Health Care team, her special food service friends, Tremeka, Delores, Sarah, and Debra, the Stewart Health Center team, and her long term/primary caregivers Maria, Georgiana, Luba, and Tatiana, as well as countless other angels who graced her door. “You’re my best friend, I love you.”

Lola is survived by her daughter Sheryl "Sheri" and husband James Klosowski of Miami, FL, son Bryan and wife Teresa of Charlotte, NC. Her grandchildren; Thomas Klosowski of Oberlin, OH, Caroline Klosowski of Stowe, VT, Patrick Turner of Midland, NC and Taylor Turner of Denver, NC. Her sisters; Dr. Mary Jane Love Nye of Durham, NC, Caroline Love Myers of Charlotte, NC, Elsie Love Reid of Asheville, NC and brother, Walter E. “Buddy” Love of Charlotte, NC, eight nieces and nephews, and ten great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Lola was preceded in death by her son Thomas Patrick Turner III in 1973, and husband, Thomas P. Turner Jr. in 2018, and her brother, John Nixon Love.

A celebration of life for Lola will take place 11:00 AM Friday, August 16, 2024, in the Community Hall of The Cypress Club of Charlotte, 3442 Cypress Club Drive.

Lola suggested memorial tributes be offered to Memory & Movement Charlotte at MMCLT.org/donate or Crisis Assistance Ministry, founded by Caroline Love Myers, crisisassistance.org.

Arrangements are in the care of Kenneth W. Poe Funeral & Cremation Service, 1321 Berkeley Ave., Charlotte, NC 28204; (704) 641-7606. Online condolences may be shared at www.kennethpoeservices.com.

My sincerest condolences to all of your family. I have been blessed with having known her daughter Sheri and her family in Coconut Grove. What a joy to have Sheri as a very good compassionate friend. She always put others before herself. A credit to her Mother and Father. May the angels lead her to God’s grace. Love,
    Seán and Bill.

My condolences to Lola’s children, particularly to her daughter Sheri, who , in spite of having her own husband and family, sacrificed many months of many years frequently flying back and forth from Florida to either manage or personally care for her mother. We should all be so blessed in our final years to have had such a daughter easing us through our final years…Rest in Peace, Lola...
