Ernest Andrew Anderson, Jr.

July 5, 2024
Ernest (Dad, PaPa, Big E, Ernesto Pedro, the Swede) Andrew Anderson, Jr., passed from this life on Friday, July 5, 2024, aged 88.
After shrugging off stage 4 colon cancer for over five years, earning him the moniker “Miracle Baby” from his oncologist, Ernest was finally taken off his feet by Lewey Body Dementia.
Ernest continued his fight against myriad attacks on body and mind with his signature stoicism and humor, making him a favorite of his many caregivers.
Though he rapidly lost control of his body, including his ability to express himself clearly, his smiles, facial expressions, occasionally understandable words and, most importantly, his beautiful blue eyes, made clear he remained himself throughout it all.
Those most dear to him were honored to receive that love in spades in his last years, and blessed with the opportunity to express their love for him, as well as their gratitude for his love – fierce and loyal.
Ernest passed gently in the company of his wife, Suzanne Luter Anderson, and adult children: Ernest Andrew Anderson, III, Kathryn Anderson Willis, and Bryan Luter Anderson.
In the weeks prior, he spent time with his children by marriage: Mary Ellen Tomlin Anderson, Craig Cooper Willis, and Jennifer Lange Anderson, as well as his five grandchildren: Ernest Andrew Anderson, IV, Alfred Braswell Cooper Willis, Anderson Stockman Willis, Whitton Glover Willis, Augustus David Anderson, and Octavius Luter Anderson.
A humble man, Ernest wouldn’t desire any recital of his personal accomplishments.
The legacy he would care to share is that chiseled into the many hearts of his family and friends. All of whom feel uniquely blessed that luck and circumstances brought them into his life – one beautifully, kindly, gently and, importantly, humorously lived.
He would not wish for anyone to mourn his passing. Rather, as a man eternally optimistic and reveling in joy, he would want those who knew him to hold these traits close. Should one desire to honor his life, share a story recalled from the multitudes born of his many adventures. And share a laugh.
Arrangements are in the care of Kenneth W. Poe Funeral & Cremation Service, 1321 Berkeley Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28204 (704) 641-7606. Online condolences can be shared at www.kennethpoeservices.com.
