CHARLOTTE, NC - Barbara Jane Winn, 88, passed on ahead of us peacefully on Thursday, May 30, 2024, after a long illness. She was surrounded by her sisters from the Joy Class. Jane was born in Cliffside, NC, to Willie and Edith Winn. Her parents and older sister, Sarah Jolley, preceded her in death. Jane is survived by a niece, Pam Gilbert, and nephew, Rick Jolley as well as a host of friends.

Jane was very proud to be a graduate of Mars Hill University and remained an active alumna over the years, serving in various roles, including board member. Her professional career was invested in serving the public through Duke Power Company in Charlotte, NC.

Jane has been an active member of St. John’s Baptist Church in Charlotte, NC, since 1958. The people of St. John’s became extended family for Jane. She served on the Mission Resource Team for more than three decades. For the past twenty-three years, she coordinated the church’s ministries on behalf of individuals and families living through seasons of hunger. Jane was actively involved in the Joy Sunday School Class and volunteered in the church finance office for more than twenty years. In recent years, she lived at Aldersgate Retirement Community where she made many friends, participated in numerous groups, and served as Treasurer for the Resident’s Association.

You are invited to gather for a memorial service to celebrate Jane’s life on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at 1:00 PM in the sanctuary of St. John’s Baptist Church with Rev. Lee Gray and Dr. Dennis W. Foust officiating.
