Haralabos Dimitrios Kakavitsas

CHARLOTTE – Haralabos “Harry” Dimitrios Kakavitsas, 93, passed away peacefully of natural causes at home in Charlotte, NC, on Friday, March 22, 2024.  He was born on February 28, 1931, in Neochori Evrytanias, Greece, son of Dimitrios Kakavitsas and Ourania Moutopoulou Kakavitsas.

Haralabos was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.  He will be remembered for his dedication and love to his family and his humble spirit.

Haralabos is survived by his wife of 74 years, Spyridoula Zaharopoulos Kakavitsas; his children, Dimitrios Kakavitsas and his wife, Eleftheria, Konstantia Kanellos and her husband, Athanasios, Eleni Mitsios and her husband, Konstantinos, Paraskevi Kakavitsas and her husband, Georgios, Margarita Koutsokalis, Maria Kakavitsas and his thirteen grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by his sister, Maria Katsadouros and many nieces, nephews, and godchildren whom he all loved dearly.  He was predeceased by his son, Nikolaos Kakavitsas; his parents, Dimitrios Kakavitsas and Ourania Moutopoulou Kakavitsas; his sisters, Penelope Karagounis and Martha Tselos and his brothers, Serafim, George, and Kostandinos Kakavitsas.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Charlotte, NC.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.  Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered in memory of Haralabos to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral Foundation, 600 East Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28203, or the Panagia Prousiotissa Chapel at Elatos Park, P.O. Box 77114, Charlotte, NC 28271.
