Evoydeene "Ebbie" Bailey

March 6, 2024

TO HER MANY FRIENDS SHE WAS CALLED EBBIE

CHARLOTTE - Evoydeene Warren Bailey, 98, passed away at Novant Hospital, Matthews in their hospice unit on 03/06/2024 where her family is assured she was able to hear those cherished words – “Well done my good and faithful servant”.

Ebbie was born to the late Opheus and Neta Warren of Clinton, NC. She attended Herring High School in Clinton, NC where she was active in many school activities, including playing on the girls’ basketball team. She then attended Kings Business College and worked in the home office of Durham Life Insurance Co. in Raleigh, NC for 10 years.

She was married to the late Allen A. Bailey for 60 years until his passing in 2006. After her husband finished Wake Forest Law School they moved to Charlotte, NC in 1950. She attended First Baptist Church in Charlotte for the remainder of her life and was active in almost all phases of its outreach, such as teaching Sunday school for the Young Adults Class, Vacation Bible School and serving on the committee that relocated the church and planned the new church’s construction. She was always eager to support her husband’s work with the then North Carolina Trial Lawyers Association, (now the North Carolina Advocates for Justice) which he co-founded in 1960. She served in many phases of the group’s calling, attending each annual convention from age 35-91. The NCAJ honored her by establishing the “Ebbie Award” in 2003, created to recognize service and inspired commitment to the North Carolina Advocates for Justice and its mission.

The many lives she touched were raised up and encouraged to be the best person they could be. She lived for her friends and had many, many non-blood “families”. Her legacy lives on throughout them and carries on her spirit of love, perseverance, and right living. As one of her “children” recently said, “A life well spent”. Indeed, it was.

Ebbie is survived by her son Michael Allen Bailey and wife, Robin of Charlotte, 2 grandchildren, James Allen Bailey and wife, Rachel of Raleigh, and Brandon Nicole Swegan of Charlotte. She also leaves 4 great grandchildren. Additional family members include brothers Robert Davis Warren (dec) of Benson, NC, and James Albert Warren of Charlotte, nephews Dave Warren (dec) and wife Judy, Gary Warren, Jim Warren and wife, Brenda, Dean Warren and wife, Lisa, and niece Karen Marcilliat and husband, Kevin, and special family member, Kay Boyette and husband, Gene of Clinton, NC.

A service to celebrate Ebbie's life will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, March 11, 2024 at First Baptist Church in Charlotte.  The family will receive friends following the service.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be made in her honor to First Baptist Church, 336 S. Davidson Street, Charlotte NC 28202, or North Carolina Advocates for Justice, 701 Corporate Center Drive, Suite 450, Raleigh, NC 27607.

“Aunt Ebbie” was certainly a servant of God indeed! I will always remember her kindness and willingness to help others. Beautiful inside and out. ❤️ Heaven has gained a beautiful Angel.

Reunited with her “Allen”. Ebbie was a Godly woman with gift of encouragement. She exemplified a Titus 2 woman in “teaching” the younger women. Ebbie was such a good friend. She was loved dearly by our family. She told me last month that she loved me because I loved and took care of David. She is in jumping and worshiping Jesus face to face no doubt. Mike you and your family are in our prayers. She loved you so much.
