Pete Louie Politis

November 27, 2023

CHARLOTTE – Pete Louie Politis, 42, died peacefully at home on Monday, November 27, 2023.  Pete was born to Louie and Irene Politis in Charlotte, NC on April 28, 1981.  He was the devoted brother to his sisters, Hope and Zoe.

A native Charlottean, Pete attended Myers Park Traditional Elementary School where he was the first student body president.  He also attended Quail Hollow Middle School and was a 1999 graduate of South Mecklenburg High School where he was a star baseball and soccer player for the Sabres.

After graduation, and like his father and grandfather, Pete went into the family restaurant business.  He owned and operated Tanner’s Snack Bar for several years and Old Pineville Premium Pub in Lower South End for the last eight years.  In 2017, the Charlotte Observer featured Pete, Louie and Papou Pete in an article about the growth and development emanating from South End.  Pete was fun and full of life and treated every customer like family.  He had a huge heart, a deep sense of loyalty, and a contagious smile that was “like a bright light”.  He was a force to be reckoned with behind a grill and was known to take over family cookouts.  Pete enjoyed sports, reading on all subjects and watching his favorite movie, The Godfather.  As a devout Greek Orthodox Christian, Pete lived his faith.  He loved Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, where he was baptized and was a life-long member, participating in Sunday School and GOYA youth activities and sports.  Pete was known by family and friends as a kind and loving individual who was always there for them.

In addition to his loving parents, Louie and Irene, Pete is survived by his sisters, Hope Leak and her husband, John and Zoe Politis; grandfather, Pete Politis, whom he is named after.  He will be greatly missed by his nephews John Duncan Leak V and Louis James Leak who were his pride and joy.  Also surviving are his aunts and uncles, Spyros and Emily Dermatas, Chris Politis (Kimberly) and Athina Politis.  He will be greatly missed by his cousins, Nick Dermatas (Katina), Eleni Evans (Jay), Peter Politis, Dimitri Politis, Samantha Politis and Christopher Politis (Sheila), his godfather, John Tsoulos, and his godsons Hunter and Christian Wheatley.  Pete leaves behind a large and loving extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews who will cherish his memory.  He was predeceased by his grandparents, Nick and Zoe Dermatas, grandmother, Alice Politis and uncle, Angelo Politis.

Funeral services will be held at Noon on Friday, December 1, 2023, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral and will be officiated by His Grace Bishop Sebastian, Reverend Dr. Jonathan Resmini, Reverend Father Christian Siskos and Deacon George Politis.  The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 10:30 AM until the time of the service.  Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.  The service will be livestreamed at:  https://vimeo.com/event/165729/457c79a80e for those unable to attend in person.  Pallbearers will be Nick Dermatas, George Koutsopoulos, Walker Lowe, Angelo Nikopoulos, Christopher Politis, Dimitri Politis, John Allen Richardson, Christopher Tsoulos, Robbie Wheatley and Hunter Wheatley.

Memorial donations may be offered in memory of Pete to the Holy Trinity Cathedral Foundation, 600 East Boulevard, Charlotte, NC 28203 or Panagia Prousiotissa Chapel at Elatos Park, PO Box 77114, Charlotte, NC 28271.

Louie and Family, I was heartbroken to see the news of your precious son's passing. Perhaps you remember me, Louie. I was at South Mecklenburg during our sophomore year. You were always joy-filled and I loved being around you with our many friends. I was bussed to Olympic for our junior and senior years but I still loved to hang out with my Sabre buddies. May God bless you and your family with His peace that passes all understanding.

    Louie, Irene, Hope, & Zoe
We are so sorry for your loss. We love you guys as we loved Pete. Pete was one of a handful of young men that I coached or knew through the kids that I honestly felt that was just like my own child. He lived life. He was funny. He never took anything too seriously. Every time that we saw him he made us smile!
Thanks for letting us enjoy part of his time on this earth.
    May God bless you all!
