CHARLOTTE – Ralph Erwin Brice, 92, died Tuesday, May 2, 2023.  He was born on April 20, 1931, in Spartanburg, SC, the son of the late Frances Boggs Brice and Luther Kennedy Brice.

After graduating from Spartanburg Schools in 1948, he received his degree in architecture from Cornell University in 1953.  Upon graduation, Ralph spent two years in the military.  After his service, he moved to Charlotte where he met Margaret (Peggy) Cress and they were married on November 19, 1961.  Ralph worked ten years for A. G. Odell as an architect and left in 1969 to open Brice-Morris Architectural firm.  During his career, he designed many medical offices and other public works buildings across the southeastern United States.

Ralph retired from Brice-Morris in 1998 to spend time enjoying his hobbies and family.  He loved capturing nature and his family in photographs as well as expressing his creativity through woodworking, building many beautiful pieces of custom furniture for his daughters.  In 2014, Ralph and Peggy moved to Sharon Towers where they enjoyed spending time with new friends and were grateful for the care and support provided to them by the staff.

Ralph is survived by his wife, Peggy; daughters, Carolyn Briggs of Lexington, SC and Margaret Hines and her husband, Rob of Columbus, GA; four grandchildren; Robert, Thomas, Emily and Brian.  Also surviving is his brother, Luther Kennedy Brice, Jr. of Washington, DC.

The family wishes to thank his many friends for their love, support, and assistance in his last days.

My deepest sympathy goes out to Mrs. Brice, and the entire family. I am heart broken to hear of Mr. Brice’s passing. He was a wonderful boss and a great friend. I learned so much working with him for many years at Brice Morris Architects. We also enjoyed many Birthday celebration dinners with work friends, keeping up with what was going on in our family. Mr. Brice will be greatly missed by me and I am sure so many others he impacted over his well lived life.

I had the privilege and honor of working for Ralph early in my career, and then being part of the firm transition just before his retirement. I will always remember Ralph as a patient mentor generous with his tremendous knowledge about the profession of Architecture, and I will cherish the memories of working for him and with him. He taught me so much. My sympathies go out to Peggy, Margaret and Carolyn, as well as the rest of the family.
