Donna Leng Nahouraii

March 2, 2023

CHARLOTTE – Donna Leng Nahouraii, 59, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, March 2, 2023 with her family by her side.

She was born to Ralph and Janet (Hoffman) Leng and raised in Pittsburgh, PA. Donna was a proud graduate of Saint Elizabeth High School.  She attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania and was an active member of AOPi.  After graduating with her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, Donna began her nursing career in Pittsburgh, during which time she met her beloved husband, Robert (Bob).  They married in 1991 and later moved to Durham, NC, where she continued her career as a mother-baby nurse at Durham Regional Hospital.  Together they had two accomplished children, Michael and Lauren.  She took time off from being a (paid) nurse once they moved to Charlotte to serve as full-time house manager, taxi driver, and (unpaid) nurse and caretaker for their kids and parents.

To know Donna was to know a selfless servant with a heart full of unconditional love and support. She volunteered as class mom and school nurse, and in many roles with the local Girl Scout council. She found great joy serving as the annual district camp coordinator at Camp Occoneechee and won several awards for her volunteer work including the Silver Hornet Award.  Donna attended every single lacrosse game and dance performance, and helped her kids with countless school projects.  She was a craft extraordinaire like her mom, once cutting out individual craft pieces for twenty children before discovering Oriental Trading.

Her passion was baking; she loved making batches of Rice Krispie treats and extravagant homemade birthday cakes.  She had a sweet tooth just like her dad, and always made sure to taste for “quality control.”  Donna was also a devoted fan of Duke basketball and Steelers football—the only time she would ever yell.  After becoming an empty nester, she enjoyed attending rock concerts and sporting events with Bob, and developed a newfound love for yoga. Through the years, she always operated on Donna Standard Time (DST).  Donna loved all animals and maintained birdhouses and hummingbird feeders around the house; she especially loved dogs and her rescue Maltipoo, Piper.

Donna never met a stranger she didn’t like, and loved to tell stories to anyone who would listen for as long as they would listen.  She could always see a different side to every story and never thought a negative thing about anyone (except when judging houses on HGTV). She kept her mind sharp with Sudoku and newspaper puzzles with a Diet Coke in hand.  She loved to read the local paper with her pup by her side and made her family promise not to do her wrong in her obituary!

Donna is survived by her devoted husband of thirty-two years, Robert Nahouraii; her children, Michael and Lauren Nahouraii; her brothers, Mark Leng and his wife, Paula of Venetia, PA and David Leng and his wife, Lynnmarie of Pittsburgh, PA and their families. Also surviving are her in-laws, Ata and Maria Nahouraii; brother-in-law, Richard Nahouraii; sister-in-law, Helen Nahouraii; and numerous cousins and friends across the country. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Janet Leng.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to her steadfast caregivers, visitors, and medical team who cared for her with love and devotion over the last three years.

A Funeral Mass will be held 2:00 PM on Friday, March 10, 2023, at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church, 3016 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC.  The family will receive guests one hour prior to the service at the church.  The service will be livestreamed at: https://stgabrielchurch.org/livefunerals for those unable to attend in person.  She will be laid to rest in Pittsburgh in the near future, and a memorial mass will be held at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church at that time.

The family requests memorials be made in memory of Donna to Girl Scouts Hornets’ Nest Council, 7007 Idlewild Road, Charlotte, NC 28212 or https://www.hngirlscouts.org/en/support-us/donate-locally/donate-today.html.
