Carl Wilson Walker, Jr.

February 21, 2023

Carl Wilson Walker, Jr., 79, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on February 21, 2023. Carl was born on September 8, 1943, to the late Carl Wilson Walker and Nora Lee Walker in Davidson, NC.  He moved to Charlotte at a young age and always considered it home. Upon graduating from Oakridge Military Academy, he attended his beloved University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After graduation, Carl proudly served his country as a reservist in the United States Marine Corps stationed at Camp Lejune, North Carolina.

Carl was an entrepreneur and retailer at heart having built several successful businesses throughout his life. Many will remember his beautiful women's clothing store, 'Carl Walker' and antique store, 'Jenko's'.  Additionally, he took extreme pride in his historic restoration of The Gourmajenko Mansion, affectionately known as 'The Villa' on Providence Road.

Carl was blessed with many lifelong friends whom he truly thought of as family. He treasured his time with them during countless rounds of golf at Quail Hollow Club, fishing trips to the Carolina Coast and watching TarHeel basketball.  His quick wit and sense of humor were truly something special and he maintained both as his health declined in recent years.

Carl adored his family, especially his wife of 48 years, Alice Myers Walker. In addition to Alice, he is survived by his sons, Harold Crosby Stowe, Jr. of Charlotte; Carl Wilson Walker, III of San Francisco; daughter, Elizabeth ("Holly") Walker Hunter and her husband, Charlie of Charlotte; his dear granddaughters Alice Elizabeth Hunter and Ellen Welles Hunter; brothers and sisters in-law, Bill and Gay Pender and Dennis and Janet Myers, along with many nieces and nephews.

The family expresses a heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Jason Brancato and the other doctors who cared for him during his illness. There will be a private family service to celebrate Carl's life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Myers Park United Methodist Church, 1501 Queens Road, Charlotte, NC 28207

Arrangements are in the care of Kenneth W. Poe Funeral & Cremation Service, 1321 Berkeley Ave., Charlotte, NC; 28204 (704) 641-7606. Online condolences can be shared at www.kennethpoeservices.com.
