Taxiarhis “Tom” Koufaliotis

February 13, 2023

CHARLOTTE – Taxiarhis “Tom” Koufaliotis, 84, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on Monday, February 13, 2023.  Tom was born in Papparousion, Evrytania on February 1, 1939.

In 1962, with $80 in his pocket, he arrived in the United States and worked in New York for a short time before moving to Winston-Salem, NC.  In that same year, he married Anna Andritsogiannis of Voutyro, Evrytania. They moved to Charlotte where Tom became an insurance agent.  The nature of his work brought him in contact with almost every Greek American in the southern states.  He owned Mr. C’s in West Charlotte and later went to work at South 21 on South Boulevard.  Tom then entered the hospitality industry where he enjoyed being a hotel bellman and chauffeur.  He was an active member of the Greek Orthodox community at Holy Trinity and served on the Parish Council.  Most people have fond memories of him selling raffle tickets at the festival each year.

Tom was a kind and loving husband as well as an amazing father and Pappou.  He loved making people laugh and will be dearly missed by all those who knew him.

His family would like to offer their sincere thanks and gratitude to Dr. Peter Copsis and the amazing medical staff at Atrium Health MICU who gave Tom such great care.

Tom is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Anna; his children, Spero Koufaliotis and his wife, Rodanthe, Kiki Koufaliotis, and George Koufaliotis and his wife, Rena; his five adoring grandchildren, Thomas, Steven, Harry, Tommy, and Maria; his brother, George Koufaliotis and his wife, Anna of Greece; sisters, Melpo Kalevas and her husband, Spero, Eleni Hrisikos and her husband, Sokratis.  He is also survived by his many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.  Tom was predeceased by his parents, Spero and Vasiliki Koufaliotis, and brother, Athanasios Koufaliotis.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Charlotte, NC.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.  Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered in memory of Tom to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral Foundation, 600 East Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28203 or the Panagia Prousiotissa Chapel at Elatos Park.

May His Memory Be Ever Eternal!
