Robert Weir "Bo" Elliot, Jr.
February 8, 2023
CHARLOTTE – Robert Weir “Bo” Elliot died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, February 8, 2023. A native Charlottean, Bo was born on September 12, 1949 to Robert Weir and Dorathy Thigpen Elliot. He was devoted to his family, his faith and his profession.
Bo met his wife, Mollie Lee Culp, on a Young Life trip while in high school and together they raised three children. Along with their seven grandchildren, they celebrated the gift of love and family at gatherings in Charlotte, Spruce Pine and Topsail Beach. Particularly memorable were special one-on-one grandparent trips to national parks and Bo’s faithful presence at grandchildren’s sporting events. They were the light of his life and a constant source of inspiration.
He was generous in life, in spirit and in sharing his faith with others. Throughout his life, the church was an anchor. He served on the Vestry and as Junior and Senior Warden at Holy Comforter Episcopal Church. Bo was active in Search Ministries, starting and leading many Bible studies, and at the time of his death was a member of Myers Park United Methodist Church.
Leadership came naturally early on to Bo as student body president and captain of the football team at South Mecklenburg High School, where he was an All-Mecklenburg linebacker, and as president of his Kappa Sigma pledge class at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, from which he graduated in 1971. Bo followed his father’s and grandfather’s career path as a CPA and was a founding partner of Elliot/Warren, later becoming Elliott-Davis.
A regular at the Dowd YMCA, Bo gave back to his community by serving on the Board of the YMCA of Greater Charlotte. He loved the mountains and hiking. Bo served on the board of the Catawba Land Conservancy, the Bob Allen Memorial Scholarship Committee at Appalachian State University, and enjoyed supporting the artists of the Linville Arts and Toe River Arts Councils.
Bo touched the lives of many and will be missed by many friends and colleagues.
Bo is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mollie; children, Collin Haglund and her husband, Todd, Cameron Borrelli and her husband, David and Robert W. Elliot III and his wife, Dana; grandchildren, Elizabeth and Wynn Haglund, Carter and Caroline Borrelli and Clara, Robert “Beau” Elliot, and Wyatt Elliot. He is also survived by his brothers, Richard “Ret” Elliot and James “Jim” Elliot; sister, Mary Drew “Misty” Wright, and cousins that were as close as brothers and sisters and his constant companions through many of life’s adventures.
A celebration of Bo’s life will be held 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at Myers Park United Methodist Church, 1501 Queens Road. The family will receive friends following the service in Jubilee Hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered in memory of Bo to Charlotte Neuroscience Foundation, c/o Memory & Movement Charlotte, 411 Billingsley Road, Suite 103, Charlotte, NC 28211 or YMCA of Greater Charlotte, 400 East Morehead Street, Charlotte, NC 28202 or Hospice & Palliative Care Charlotte Region, 7845 Little Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28226 or a charity of the donor’s choice.

Molly,
Here I am on Valentines Day writing to you - thinking of you and your valentine. I can't imagine how you must miss him. Bo was a special spirit....quiet...listening...and sure of himself - a wonderful being. I so appreciated his obit - beautiful in telling his story - I had forgotten about our Young Life trip....so transformative to us all ! We were blessed with "the gift of love". You nurtured your gift well. Biggest of hugs to you my friend. I believe that his spirit will be with you always. Listen to Curtis Mayfield of the IMPRESSIONS singing "It's All RIGHT" - with that I hope to send you something to make you smile. Hugs, Lindsay -
wow. had not kept up with Bo. my loss. fond memories in years gone by of him at Y. and fond memories as well of dad Pinky. so, here's to a life well lived, Bo. know that your positive outlook and keen attention to friendships did not go unnoticed. you were quite simply a kind gentleman. and all that from a star linebacker as a sabre. history will be kind to you. my life better for having crossed yours.

Every memory I have of Bo is one of happy moments. I’m sure that he suffered as we all do, but he had a joyful spirit when I would see him. Molly and family, I am sorry for your loss, but am glad that Bo is not suffering. God bless you all with his comfort as you move forward.
With love,
Charlie Wallace
