Dimitrios Kapantais

January 23, 2023

CHARLOTTE – It is with tremendous sadness that we are announcing the passing of Dimitrios Kapantais, 93, who went to heaven to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, January 23, 2023.  He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, whose first great-grandchild arrived the same day he went to be with the Lord.

Dimitrios was born in Thessaloniki, Greece and his adopted parents raised him in Kato Kamila, Greece with his three siblings.  At age fourteen he moved to Thessaloniki and a year later met his future wife for the first time who was the sister of one of his close friends.  He was proud to serve in the Greek Army as that gave him great discipline.  He married his wife at the age of 27 and they raised four children together and became proud grandparents eight times and great-grandparents one time.  Dimitrios was a highly respected master tailor all his life starting at the age of fourteen.   At the age of fifty he had the courage to bring his family to the United States which had been his family’s lifelong dream.

Dimitrios and his wife were very well known in the Orthodox community and deeply loved by their friends and family.  He loved gardening at his homes in both Greece and in North Carolina as well as spending time in his daughter's Florida home and reading his Orthodox books.  His favorite joy was spending time with his beloved wife and reminiscing about their many memories together.

Dimitrios is survived by his amazing wife, Ekaterini; his four wonderful children, Emily and her husband, Les, George, Niki and Evangelia; eight grandchildren, Wesley, Dimitri, Paul, Andrew, Christian, Madison, Stefan, Katerina and one great-grandchild, Owen Michael.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM on Friday, January 27, 2023, at St. Nektarios Greek Orthodox Church, 5108 Kuykendall Road, Charlotte, NC.  The family will receive friends thirty minutes prior to the service at the church.  Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered in memory of Dimitrios to: St. Tabitha Orthodox Christian Orphanage and School at: http://www.sttabithahouse.com/index.php/ways-to-help-financially/

May he have Kalo Paradiso and may his memory be eternal!
