Elizabeth Bland "Betsy" Carver

January 24, 2023

Elizabeth Bland "Betsy" Carver, of Charlotte, NC died after a long illness on January 24, 2023.  Born May 1, 1935, Betsy lived a full and active life which began in Mt. Gilead NC. The daughter of Anna Kelly Bland and Robert Ward Bland, Betsy attended Peace College in Raleigh, NC; in 1957 she married George W. Carver and in 1958 they settled in Charlotte.

Betsy was bright, energetic, decisive, and a born leader. Charlotte's philanthropic organizations were the lucky recipients of her talent and drive.  She held leadership volunteer positions with many non-profit organizations, including the Mint Museum, the Charlotte Symphony, the United Way, Charlotte Country Day School, the Friends of the Library of Queens University, and more.  After serving the public sector for many years, in 1987 Betsy started and for 20 years ran her own staffing company, Betsy Carver Personnel.

Her greatest service was to her faith and to her church, Myers Park Presbyterian. There she created the Tape Ministry program, was a member of the first Stephen's Ministry Class, and served on numerous committees.  She served on the Presbyterian Samaritan Council, the Board at Sharon Towers, Jacob's Ladder Job Center and on the Mecklenburg Presbytery.  Not surprisingly, she was a recipient of the Presbyterian Women's Lifetime Membership Award.

She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Carver Warren and husband Hans Warren of Charlotte; granddaughters, Carver Morrow Draughn (Justin) of Charlotte, NC and Catherine "Cackie" Morrow Garner (Charlie) of Mt. Pleasant,SC;  and by Hans' sons Trey Warren (Sally) and Bob Warren (Alexis), both of Charlotte, NC.  Additionally, Betsy is survived by her sister Roberta Springett (Rick) of Columbus, NC.

Her life will be celebrated with a service at Myers Park Presbyterian Church at 2:00 PM on Monday, January 30, 2023.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to consider donations to Myers Park Presbyterian Church, 2501 Oxford Place, Charlotte, NC 28207; Kindermourn, 1320 Harding Place, Charlotte, NC 28204, or Sharon Towers, 5100 Sharon Road, Charlotte, NC 28210.
