Elizabeth A. Tanos-Priest

CHARLOTTE – Ms. Elizabeth A. Tanos-Priest, better known as Elizabeth Tanos - one half of the Tanos twins, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 in Charlotte, NC. 

Elizabeth was born on January 29, 1968 in Philadelphia, PA to Thelma and James D. Tanos.  She was raised on the Main Line of Philadelphia and attended Haverford High School. She received her BS/BA undergraduate and MBA degrees in Finance from Villanova University, along with being one of the first women in the country to become a CFA Charterholder.

Elizabeth had a very distinguished and award-winning career in the financial and wealth management industry in Charlotte for over 30 years.  She was a well-respected and highly admired leader and valued member of the Charlotte community.

Additionally, Elizabeth was a passionate and longstanding advocate for education and philanthropy with her lifelong involvement in several charities, such as the Order of AHEPA and the Daughters of Penelope. She was also an active participant in the Greek-American community in Charlotte, as well as with the Greek Orthodox church.

Most importantly, Elizabeth will always be remembered for being an incredibly kind, generous, caring, loving and compassionate woman.  She was so very loved and adored by all who met and knew her, and she will be terribly missed.

Elizabeth is survived by her twin sister, Ellaina D. Tanos; her aunt, Ms. Alexandra Papadopoulou, Her Excellency-the Ambassador from Greece to the United States, as well as by several cousins in the US and Greece.

A funeral service will be held at 1:30 PM on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 600 East Blvd in Charlotte, NC.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.  Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.

    My heart is truly broken as I grieve with Elizabeth's family, together with so many friends and admirers. To say that she will be missed is an understatement. Her kindness, thoughtfulness, generosity, and commitment to making a significant contribution to making this world a better place are without compare.
