Elbert Monroe Chapman, Jr.

CHARLOTTE – Elbert Monroe Chapman Jr., also known as Jim or Jimmy, died peacefully on Tuesday, November 29, 2022. 

Jim lived vibrantly and his enthusiasm for both life and art was obvious to anyone who spoke to him.  Originally from Hickory, NC; he graduated from East Carolina and moved around before settling in Charlotte.  Jim was an avid sports fan and enjoyed all types of music from Big Band to Rock n Roll.  He was an exhibiting and award-winning artist who loved to paint, spend time with loved ones and travel the world with his long-time partner, Mary Alley. 

In addition to Mary, Jim leaves behind his daughters, Laura Chapman Thompson and Elisabeth Chapman Morgan and her husband, Tyler; grandsons, Cameron Thompson and Andrew Morgan; granddaughter, Olivia Morgan.  Also surviving are his step-granddaughter, Chelsea Thompson Baer and her family; sister, Barbara Barton; brother, Doug Chapman and his wife, Lori and many beloved family members and friends.  He was predeceased by his son, Justin Chapman; his brother-in-law, Bill Barton; and his parents, Elbert and Pearl Chapman. 

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, December 19, 2022 at Forest Hill Church Southpark, 7224 Park Rd, Charlotte, NC.  A second celebration of life will be held at the Inn at Crestwood, tentatively set for April 23, 2023.
