Ann Ashby Pope

GREENSBORO – Ann Ashby Pope was called to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, November 25, 2022. She was born August 7, 1926 in Raleigh, NC to the late Flossie May Martin Ashby and John Dalton Ashby.

While living most of her life in Charlotte, she became the first female letter carrier in North Carolina, for the US Post Office in 1964.  A large part of Ann's life was dedicated to Mizpah Chapter No. 36 Order of the Eastern Star where she served, among other offices, as Worthy Matron. Ann's dedication to the Order of the Amaranth included serving as Grand Royal Matron.

Ann is survived by her sons, Dixon C. Cook Jr. and his wife, Caroline, Thomas H. Cook and his wife, Marlene, and John O. Cook; his four grandchildren; Jennifer, Derek, Amelia, and Ray.  She was predeceased by her first husband, Dixon Cook and her second husband, John Pope. 

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, December 11, 2022 at Midwood Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Dr. Garry Baldwin.
