Peter Tunstall Mitchell

Peter Tunstall Mitchell, 75, of Charlotte, died November 20, 2022 at his home. Peter was born on December 25, 1946 in Essex, NJ, son of Richard Tunstall Mitchell and Helen Elizbeth Crabb Mitchell.

Peter graduated from Cornell University with a degree in Chemistry and received an MBA degree from the University of Rochester Simon School of Business.

He served for several years in the US Army and enjoyed an over twenty-five-year career with IBM. Peter was a member of Caldwell Presbyterian Church.

In addition to his wife, Jane Picard Mitchell, Peter is survived by three sons and a daughter, Ryan Tunstall Mitchell, Kelsey Lynn Prescott and her husband, Jonathan, Colby Roger Mitchell and Seth Ayotte Mitchell; two grandchildren, Camden Mitchell Prescott and Beckett Whalen Prescott and a sister-in-law, Kathanne Kuhn Mitchell. He was preceded in death by his brother, Willis Hall Mitchell.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at Caldwell Presbyterian Church, 1609 E. 5th St., Charlotte. The service will be followed by military honors.  Interment will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, December 5, 2022 in the VA Cemetery in Salisbury, NC.

    Peter was a jovial man, generous, and loving to his family, especially the grandchildren who he strolled with proudly in our neighborhood. He was a model neighbor and a man I will miss. May he rest peacefully.
