We never had the honor of meeting Mr. Layton, but we were incredibly blessed by the example carried on in his daughter Diane Robinson. The caring, unconditional love, and mentoring she exemplified as our school nurse (and her incredible care of our eldest child), our whole family before and after our medical challenges, and the friend she is makes it so clear what an amazing home base she had in her Dad. I heard so much about him as she loved to talk about her visits. I hope to be the kind of parent Mr. Layton was. Our condolences and prayers are sent for all in his family.

We were saddened to learn of Al’s passing. Al was a big part of my family’s lives as he was married to my sister Elaine for many good years. Unfortunately their divorce was acrimonious and our contact with Al and his family was severed. He graciously came to Elaine’s wake in 2002 and it was nice seeing him once again. He would occasionally reach out to my mom who passed away in 2017 at 101 years of age. Unfortunately after that, I spoke to him maybe once and we then lost touch. I mention all this because it demonstrates what an incredible human Al was. My sincere condolences to his entire family. May he rest in peace. Fondly, Jackie and Dennis Lynch and family.

I am so so sorry to hear the news of his passing. Al raised me from the time I was 4 years old, he was married to my mom Elaine. He was the best dad, as his amazing 5 kids can tell you. I was so lucky to have him in my life for so many years. I haven't spoken to him in 3 years but we did keep in touch and he always wanted to know how my life was... If I was happy! He was the most wonderful, caring and supportive man I had the pleasure of loving! My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, He will be missed a great deal!! Love always, Cindi

Visiting with my Uncle Al was always a special occasion because he always made me feel special. A day or two after I was born he filmed my parents driving my twin sister Pam and I home from the hospital in October 1954. He filmed a lot of family events and made CD's of his family movies for me. I have fond memories of visiting the Laytons in N.J. when I was 11. Al drove me all over NYC and showed me the sites. He took me to Gettysburg and we toured the Civil War battlegrounds. These are just a couple of examples of the special things he did with me, of which there were many. He was the quintessential family man and always made time to spend with his family. He took in my widowed, senile grandmother and cared for her until she passed. In later years, we would talk about University of Michigan football. I still tell the story of him flying a Michigan flag on the flagpole at his house in Ohio. We talked about golf and a little politics. I was always warmly received and felt he truly cared about how I was doing. He was great man, a leader, and he raised a family of leaders. I will miss him ,of course, and I am grateful for all he has done for me. I'm fighting off tears just writing this. Kathy, Kyle, & I extend our condolences to my cousins and their families. May he rest in peace. Love, Paul
