Cecil Ray Lloyd, Sr.

October 5, 2022

CHARLOTTE – Cecil Ray Lloyd, Sr. passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 surrounded by his family.

Cecil worked for Harris Teeter in his early life.  He went on to work for various cab companies including Charlotte Cab Company, Yellow Cab Company, and Charlotte Checker Cab Company where he owned his own cabs.  Cecil opened his own business in the 90’s called C.A.R.S. (Cecil's Auto Repair Services) which he has left to his son, Joey to manage.  He loved working on cars and helping people who needed it.  Cecil loved shooting pool and listening to oldies and country music, so much so that he had a pool table and jukebox at his shop for all his friends and grandkids to hang out after work hours.  In all the years there he met many people who remained in his life.  Cecil will truly be missed by all the people he loved and those who loved him.

Cecil is survived by his loving wife, Cayren S. Lloyd; sons, Cecil R. Lloyd, Jr. and Joseph C. Lloyd and his wife, Monica; daughters, Tammie Moody and her husband, Chris, Anna M. Lloyd, Cecelia C. Rios and her husband, Cisco, Sue B. Bethea and her husband, Mark, Darian N. Lloyd and Ashley R. Lloyd.  Also surviving are his 19 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; his sister, Barbara L. Thrower and her husband, John and many nieces and nephews.  He also leaves behind his forever daughters-in-law, Jennifer M. Lloyd and Ashley McCarthy; extended family who adopted him and best friends, Forest Hastings and Howard Sanders.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence J. Lloyd, Sr. and Wilma P. Lloyd; sister, Edith L. Cribb and brothers, Robert D. Lloyd and Lawrence J. Lloyd, Jr.; son, Rickey (Pepper) Buchanan and grandsons, Christopher (Bug) Lloyd and William L. Buchanan.

Funeral Services for Cecil will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, October 14, 2022 at West Mecklenburg Baptist Church, 9917 Old Dowd Road, Charlotte, NC.  The family will receive friends from 12:00 until the time of the service at the church.  Interment will follow at Forest Lawn West Cemetery off Freedom Drive.

Arrangements are in the care of Kenneth W. Poe Funeral & Cremation Service, 1321 Berkeley Ave., Charlotte, NC 28204; (704) 641-7606. Online condolences may be shared at www.kennethpoeservices.com.

His picture is exactly how I knew him. A smile in his eyes. Love for his wife, and of life. He treated me and my family as if he always knew us, and was our friend. Me and Greta are so sorry Cayren and family for losing this rock in your life.
