Inez Haney Arant

September 28, 2022

CHARLOTTE – Mrs. Inez Haney Arant, died peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, September 28, 2022.  She was born on August 15, 1928, to Henry Clyde Haney and Eulalia Robertson Haney.

Inez enjoyed a happy early childhood on the farm in Marshville, NC with loving family, including her 2 brothers, Walter Everett Haney and Harold Dale Haney and her sister, Ella Haney (O’Malley).  She and her siblings were proudly educated in the Union County Schools. Her family attended Faulks Baptist Church faithfully.  Even in her last few years, she enjoyed visiting the family farm, remembering the garden and strong ties to neighbors and friends who lived nearby.  Her community taught her the value of hard work and fostered a love of service throughout her life.

Inez graduated from Mars Hill College and enrolled in Presbyterian School of Nursing.  After graduating from Nursing School, she met the love of her life, Aubrey Arant, Jr., to whom she was married for 52 years.  Together they had three children.  Inez and Aubrey settled in the Robinson Woods neighborhood in Charlotte where they raised their three children.  They were lifelong members of Providence Baptist Church.  Church life and community were a central part of their life, including Sunday School, teaching, coaching, and other volunteer roles.

Inez worked in various areas of Presbyterian Hospital her entire 33-year career.  She was also Associate Director of Staffing and retired in 1993 as Employee Health Nurse.  In retirement, she did not slow down.  She continued volunteer work in the medical field with Agape Dental Ministries as well as mission trips to international locations like Chile, Venezuela and Germany. Inez was the first President of the NC Nursing Fellowship and worked at the Homeless Medical Clinic.  In 2002, she was honored by the Presbyterian Hospital Alumni Association.  Inez and Aubrey were both dedicated to supporting Habitat for Humanity and various other services for homeless care such as Room in the Inn at Providence Baptist Church.

Inez will be remembered with love by all her family and friends as being sometimes mischievous, sometimes dignified, but always fun.  The family is so grateful for the care given by the nursing staff at Willowbrooke Court Skilled Care Center at Matthews Glen and Tracy and Vina from Care Haven.

Inez lived a life of integrity and purpose as she cared for her family, her community, and her Lord.  As a mother, a nurse, and a neighbor, she loved well and fought fearlessly.  Her legacy will be carried on by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Inez is survived by her children, Susan Winget and her husband, Al, David Arant and his wife, Carol, and Donald Arant and his wife, Tamara; her eleven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:30 AM on Thursday, October 13, 2022, at Providence Baptist Church in Charlotte, NC.  The family will receive friends following the service at the church.

Ms Arant was one of the first nurses I met when I came to Presbyterian Hospital in 1983. She always had a sparkle in her eyes and a warm and kind smile. She was a great nurse with excellent critical thinking skills and a kind heart. She was a treasure!!
