Philip Katopodis

Philip Katopodis, our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 26, 2022, surrounded by his family. He was born on January 2, 1928, to Dimitrios Katopodis and Ourania Stavrakas Katopodis in Karya, Lefkada, Greece.

Philip came to the United States on Thanksgiving Day in 1956.  He was forever indebted to his late Theio Nick and Theia Leona Stavrakas for bringing him to the United States and giving him the opportunity for a better life.  In 1962, he returned to Greece and married his beautiful wife of 60 years, Maria Vrettos Katopodis.  Together they made Charlotte their home and raised their family.

Throughout the years, Philip worked for Newton and Newton window treatments and Dorsey’s Furniture Store.  He also owned several restaurants including, Cloverleaf Restaurant, Zois Deli, Meadowview Restaurant, Green’s Lunch, and Green’s Lunch East.

Philip was an active member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral.  He especially enjoyed volunteering his time and serving hot dogs at the Yiasou Greek Festival every year.  In his spare time, he loved working in his yard and spending time with his children and grandchildren at the beach.

Philip is survived by his loving wife Maria; his daughters, Joanna Sikiotis and her husband, Panagiotis and Jerri Holevas and her husband, Tommy; four grandchildren, Nicholas Sikiotis, Lea Holevas, Ronnie Holevas, and Maria Holevas.  Also surviving are his siblings, Bill Katopodis and his wife, Theodoula, Art Katopodis and his wife, Olga, and Loula Katopodis and her husband, Angelo; his sisters-in-law, Loula Katopodis and Evangelia Konidaris and her husband, Zois; his brother-in-law, Constantine Vrettos and his wife, Bessie; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his daughter, Ronnie Katopodis; his parents, Dimitrios Katopodis and Ourania Stavrakas Katopodis;; sisters, Vickie Mikronis and her husband, Spiro, Effie Koucouliotis and her husband, George, and Erinne Katopodis and his brother, Paul Katopodis.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 29, 2022 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.  Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered in memory of Philip to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral Foundation, 600 East Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28203.
