Thomas T. Moore, Jr.

CHARLOTTE – Thomas T. Moore, Jr., 82, of Charlotte, NC died after a brief battle with cancer on Wednesday, August 31, 2022.  He was born on April 3, 1940 to the late Thomas and Katherine Williams Moore in Richmond, VA, and grew up in Roanoke.

Tom earned his Eagle Scout and graduated from St. Christopher’s in Richmond, VA.  He graduated from Washington and Lee University in 1963 with a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and a Bachelor of Science in Physics.  He also earned an MBA from the University of Virginia in 1965.  Tom entered the United States Army as a 2nd Lieutenant at the Army Engineer School at Fort Belvoir, VA.  He proudly served in Vietnam as a member of the 46th Engineer Battalion stationed at Long Binh.

Tom oversaw the installment of the first ATM for NCNB, served as an advisor on the board of the UNCC School of Engineering, and retired as Vice President of Systems and Operations at Bank of America in 1999.

Tom married the first love of his life, Carol Scott, in 1965. They adored their Scottish Terriers and were dedicated supporters of the NC Zoo and Carolina Raptor Center.  After Carol’s death in 1994, Tom met and married the second love of his life, Sally Hamilton Staub, in 1997.  Tom and Sally were inseparable and enjoyed traveling, rocking on their porch in the mountains, wine with friends, and their grandchildren.  He was a Deacon and Elder at Selwyn Avenue Presbyterian in Charlotte and associate member at First Presbyterian in Waynesville, NC.  Tom loved his men’s group and woodworking.  He was kindness personified, lived life to its fullest, and shared his love of community by supporting both local arts and organizations caring for children, families, and veterans.

Tom is survived by his wife, Sally Staub Moore; children by marriage Richard Staub and his wife, Libby, and Dabney Staub Gomes and her husband, Cisco; grandchildren, Burk Staub and his wife, Mary Alice, Nathan Staub, Walt Gomes and Ansel Gomes.  Also surviving are his brother, Hullie Moore; nephew, Frank Moore and niece, Sara Moore.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at Selwyn Avenue Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, NC.  The family will receive friends following the service at the church.  The service will be livestreamed at:  https://www.facebook.com/SAPCPCUSA/videos/ for those not able to attend in person.
