Deborah Surface Weeden

September 5, 2022

FORT MILL, SC – Deborah “Debbie” Surface Weeden, 66, passed away on Monday, September 5, 2022.  She was born on November 12, 1955, in Bluefield, WV to Don Howard Surface and Goldie Mae Manning Surface.

Debbie graduated high school in Charlotte and went on to earn her college degree from University of North Carolina Greensboro.  She later returned to Charlotte where she met her husband, Jim.  They were married in 1986 and have two sons, Dan and Jake.

Debbie fiercely loved God, her family, and her friends.  She was a long-time member of her church where she served as an elder.  Her true service to God was in her witness and compassion for others.  She never met a stranger, and generously provided comfort and counsel to anyone who needed special care or attention.  Debbie didn’t hesitate to show up during difficult times to make you smile or to cry with you.   She made life happier for those she loved.

Debbie found joy in tending to her beautiful roses and sharing them with others. She treasured the time she spent on the beach.  It was truly her happy place, but what she loved most was her family: Jake, Markie and Grant; Dan and Kelsey, Freddie and Lottie.  She was an extraordinary wife and mother, and she cherished her precious grand babies and her many nieces and nephews.

Debbie was much loved and respected.  She lived a life of kindness, beauty, and grace. The world will not be as colorful or as fashionable without her in it.

Debbie is survived by her husband, Jim; sons, Jake Weeden and his wife, Markie and Dan Weeden and his wife, Kelsey; grandchildren, Grant Weeden, Freddie Weeden and Lottie Weeden.  Also surviving are her siblings, Donna, Rachel, Mark, David and Gene.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Eva.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, September 8, 2022 at Steele Creek Presbyterian Church at Pleasant Hill.  The family will receive friends following the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered in memory of Debbie to Steele Creek Presbyterian Church at Pleasant Hill, 15000 York Road, Charlotte, NC 28278 https://www.steelecreekchurch.org/online-giving/ or Hospice & Palliative Care Charlotte Region P.O.
