Ronald Herbert Wheatley

January 9, 1951 – August 30, 2022

Ron Wheatley, 71, of Charlotte, NC and Ocean Isle Beach, NC died August 30, 2022 following a six-year struggle with declining health. A native Charlottean, Ron was born January 9, 1951 to Rex and Rosalie Wheatley. He graduated from Myers Park High School and owned and operated the RH Wheatley Company where he managed commercial properties in Charlotte until his retirement.

Ron and his wife, Maria Polites were high school sweethearts which led to what would be a 47-year marriage. Ron embraced Maria’s Greek Orthodox faith and was Chrismated into the church two weeks before their marriage which was performed by “Father C”. He was a devoted member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral where he served as Parish Council President and Chairman of the Yiasou Greek Festival for many years. He was also awarded the Archangel Michael Award.

Ron enjoyed hunting trips out west to Wyoming, Texas, and Kansas. An avid outdoorsman, he was a member of Artemis Hunt Club in Fort Lawn, SC. He loved vacationing at Ocean Isle Beach for over 43 years, cruises with Maria and their friends, pool days in the back yard and Panther Sundays. Above all, he loved spending time with his family who will miss him terribly but are comforted that he is with Jesus.

Ron is survived by his wife, Maria, who provided him with selfless and loving care for the past six years; his children, Johann, Robbie and Evan; grandsons, Hunter and Christian and their mom, Ashley; father-in-law, John Polites; sister-in-law, Loula Plyler and her husband, Jim, and brother-in-law, Alec Polites and his wife, Windy; and many nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by his sister, Janet Wheatley and mother-in-law, Lemonia Polites.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Peter Copsis, Dr. Megan Jagosky and Dr. Roshan Prabhu for their loving and excellent care during Ron’s illness.

Visitation will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, September 2, 2022, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral followed by Funeral Services at 11:00 AM.  Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Ron’s nephews, James Plyler, John Robert Plyler, John Polites, Rion Ledford, Derik Guy and Pete Politis.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Ron to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral Renovation Fund, 600 East Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28203 or the Panagia Prousiotissa Chapel at Elatos Park, 124 Jim Parker Road, Monroe, NC 28110.
